DIY Vacuum Pump

I found a nice article on Instructables.com (http://www.instructables.com/id/EA58LR1F35J1I9N/) about making a vacuum out of a cheap bike pump. My first thought was that this would be great for packaging homegrown hops or repacking large orders of hops. I just need to figure out a way of sealing the bags while vacuuming and after it's done.

try one of these. Same way they seal with industrial vacum sealers.

When I went to that link, I also noticed a nice how-to on DIY vacuum plastic forming. Seems like it could be useful in fabricating brewery equipment.
