I just got done making some homemade hot pretzels. I think that I am going to enjoy a couple of them with a Hennepin, or maybe even my last Dortmunder Gold.
If they are any good, I post the recipe.

Same here, maybe able to recycle some yeast in the process.
How did they taste? Mmmmm hot pretzels, mustard, and beer.

Alton Brown just did a pretzel show on the food network. Recipe should be there under Good Eats or at the Good Eats Fan Page.
Decojuicer> did you use lye or a baking soda bath to give your soft pretzels that golden exterior??

I used the Alton Brown recipe on the food network website.
I used the one with the baking soda. I don't care how safe he says it is, I'm not soaking my food in lye.

Hopefully you started with the Dortmunder and pretzel to get the full experience!
CJ, I purchased a pretzel at the Hacker-Pschorr tent at Munich's Springfest some years back and asked for mustard packets -- the look I got was priceless, but Zenf und Brötzen just aren't the norm in Germany!

There is a pretzel recipe in the recipe seciton of BeerSmith's website. I've made them a couple times and they were great. Last time, I wrapped them around hot dogs.

I've been to Germany (Munich area) for business and we hit the beer gardens. Incredible pretzels and other food but I couldn't drink due to a medical condition!
I will get back there one day.

It was indeed hell not being able to drink over there but I did enjoy my stay. Germany is a very nice country (or at least it was in the mid 90s when I was there).
My native co-workers were impressed that I would eat sauerkraut, I guess most americans do not like it.

Wow, 'kraut is a staple food for me. Admittedly my ancestry is German Irish, but I just can not fathom going to GErmany and NOT eating sauerkraut.

I'm a weinkraut or red cabbage fan myself. Sauerkraut has so many different recipes, sometimes it's a good one, other times...

I can't even smell of saurkraut. Makes my stomach churn.
In fact, I despise most forms of cabbage. When I was a kid, I was forced to eat galumpkies(stuffed cabbages) once a week when I was growing up. When I got a job and a driver's license, I never ate it again. And being a good Polish boy, that is sacriledge.

My inlaws put a ton of sugar in their kraut, yech. I still eat it but its not the way I like it.

Indeed! Kraut and brauts cooked in beer with a nice craft beer is a slice of heaven to me.
My teenage son is polish/german and he hates sauerkraut. I always tell him he needs to get with his roots.

Same thing different ending here, I loved my grandmother stuffed cabbage and I love saurkraut. My wife on the other hand, the beef and potatos up bringing just doesn't let her apperciate the finer things in life sometimes.:D As a kid we would just eat the kraut right out of the bottle/can as a snack.
