After a few suggestions in someone else's thread (http://www.realbeer.com/discussions/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15055), I decided to ask in a new thread.

I will be making two trips to H-Town this summer for training. I know where I'll be staying for the first one which is next week (June 19-22). I'll be staying at a Sheraton off 59 near Kirby and the training place is in the Galleria area. The next trip will be July 17-20 and the classes will be downtown, but I may end up staying at the same hotel, depending on prices.

I've gone through BAs BeerFly listings for Houston and picked some places that were close. Here's a list of the places I narrowed down to for the first trip (not looking to go to all of them). Give me a thumbs up/down or let me know if a place needs to be added.

- Two Rows (I know it may not be great, but its a brewpub)
- Ginger Man
- Red Lion's Pub
- Stagg's Head
- Mighty Duck
- The Richard's Arms

Sorry I just looked at the dates and you aren't going to be here over a weekend. I don't really have anything good or bad to say about those places you mentioned.

yep - just weekdays. might be a nice, quiet time to sample at a few of these places, though

You may want to try this place:

http://www.stagsheadpub.com/

It should be close to where your staying.

I've only been there for lunch, but really enjoy the food. Not sure how authentic, but to me I would classify as traditional English food. Love those scotch eggs!!

sorry, just realized Stagg's head was already in your list.

Two Row's is within walking distance to the Gingerman, if I recall correctly. Two rows is decent and Gingerman very good.

Its Mucky Duck. McGonigels Mucky Duck. I've been here once and got some really good 60 minute there.

Two Rows and Ginger Man are very close in proximity but way different in atmosphere.

Two Rows' food is only average and brew is ok. They have a decent red and decent IPA. Ginger Man is more laid back with huge selection of craft beer and imports both in bottle and on tap. Check their website. Definitely make Ginger Man.

Mucky Duck is real close to you. It is more of a party place with band and can be crowded, depending on the time. They do have good beer though.

I haven't been to the others you mention although I'm planning on a couple of them. Check the Houston city search reviews on them to get an idea of what type of place they are and what people think of them.

If you do the downtown trip check out the Flying Saucer for great brew selection and great eye candy. It can be crowded after work, especially if the Astros are in town for a night game.

when I head back in July, I'll hit up the downtown places. Let me know if you want to get together for a beer or 7 one of the nights. Tues night I won't be getting to Houston until late, but I may still go grab a pint - then Wed and Thurs I'll be available anytime after 5 (and before 9am, but I don't think anything will be open then:D )

thanks for the suggestion. I'm headed back in about a month. I got to go to Richmond Arms, Flying Saucer, Two Rows and Ginger Man. I tried to meet up with Malt O Meal at the Saucer, but I ran into some problems and was quite late.

In about a month, I'm headed back to Houston and will be staying downtown. I plan to go back to the Flying Saucer for an extended visit, and maybe a few other places.

If your home bar needs a kick in the glassware, go to the Saucer on a Wednesday if that fits into your schedule. For each pint you order, you get to keep the glass it's served in.
Quirky, yes, but the Saucer is an amazing place any day of the week.

Glad you enjoy our little town :)

That's great! I don't need any more glassware, but I want more.

HogieWan,

You still planning on coming back to h-town next week? As Mount Isaac mentioned, Saucer does give away glass on Wednesday. Might be a good time to make that stop.

yep - I'll be in tuesday night. I'll meet you at the Saucer on Wed as soon as I get out of the class. I'll be coming from the Marriot (old Humble Oil Building), so it shouldn't take that long.
