as i sit here watching moday night football and tasting my 750mL bottle of lucifer belgian golden ale, i can't help but notice how (un)remarkabley similar it tastes to budweiser. it has a nice spicey hop bitterness up front that comletely fizzles out into just budweiser. i think i paid about $8 or so for it, so i'm rather disappointed.

it is still a long way from Bud. It's an ale not a lager (although it is pale gold like a pils). It's also about twice as strong (8%?)
If you were expecting hoppy then I can understand the disappointment. The flavour is mostly spice (coriander and cloves), mild maltiness, yeastiness with some fruity esters and quite a bit of alcohol.
Duvel is much better - the classic of this style.

Is it possible that you served it too cold? That would have stunted the flavor. If it's in the same style as Duvel, as Theakston says, there should be no way it can be compared to Spud.

I have a couple bottles in my fridge. Unfortunately, I am still in the induction phase of Atkins so no beer till Saturday and only one then. (And it probably won't be a Lucifer). It has been a long time since I last tried Lucifer. Several years. I can't recall how it tasted. If it is similar to Duval, then it should be very good. I agree that maybe it was too cold. When I do get around to sampling mine I'll chime back in with my impressions.
