I was looking at a few thermostats for converting a chest freezer into a kegerator and came across a few types. I was wondering if a cheaper model (seen here)

http://www.northernbrewer.com/nbstore/action/search-do?searchTerm=thermostat&x=17&y=16

would work adequately, or should I shell out an extra $30 and get the digital model (shown here)

http://www.kegwarehouse.com/1c005.html

I'm on a budget, so if the cheaper one would still work, then I'm all for it. I just don't want to buy a piece of crap that I"ll end up not using and buying the digital model later anyway.

Anybody have any experience with analog vs. digital?

I have one, like the northern brewing one. Temps are dead on and I've never had a problem. I haven't had it a year, so I can't speak of the long term durability. So far, no complaints.
I bought it after a suggestion from Toney C.
Maybe he can comment on the long term use of it.
Cheers,
Bill

I've only had mine for two years or so, but I have no complaints with it at all. I've never actually checked the accuracy of the dial setting on the controller itself, though. It seems pretty close.

I have two like the northern brewer one and they work perfectly. I've checked the accuracy and they are right on within a couple of degrees which is to be expected because they're meant to operate in a few degree range to prevent constant cycling of the compressor.

I'll second (fifth?) that. I have the one in the first pictire, but I bought it from More Beer. Works great, no complaints.

Thanks guys! That makes me feel better!

It's always good to hear first hand from somebody who's used a product before actually buying one myself.

Fuji-Just found this link about temp. controllers.

I think this price is close to the lesser expensive of the two your looking at with all the digital upgrades.

Cut and paste. The only thing I would check is the electrical connection. See if you can just plug it into a wall receptable.

FYI

BTW- I picked out my freezer(12.8cu.ft.), this will be my thermostat. Next is all the plumbing I'll need.
