Some 7-Up right now but when I get home from the office may start with a Golden Belgian Ale then to a Northern English Nut Brown Ale. Also have a Schwartzbier that should be right for consumption so may tap into that or a Vienna lager that has some 'cellar time' under it's belt.
Then again there is a nice Dortmunder that has been aging in my cellar since the first of the year.

that´s the first mention of any of the penn beers i´ve seen on here. all are excellent, but as is usually the case, in my opinion, the microbrews flagship brand is the weakest of the lot.
penn now makes a "weizen bock", but i think it´s only available on premises in may.

I went to PA yesterday to pick up some beer. I was astonished to find that in one weekend my sixtel of Sunshine Pils was emptied out at the beach. Anyway here is what I got yesterday:
Growlers:
Pikeland Pils - Sly Fox
Pale Ale - Sly Fox
Prima Pils - Victory
Sixtels:
Sunshine Pils - Troegs
Farmhouse - Flying Fish
Pils - Legacy
I'm on quite the pils binge these days. Anyway the Sunshine and the Farmhouse will go to the beach kegerator tomorrow and the Legacy may join the Yards Philadelphia Pale Ale that I have on the home kegerator or go into reserve for the next tap that comes up dry. Tonight after work I hope to enjoy one of the growlers. Probably the Sly Fox Pils. It is excellent.

What did you think of the Indian Brown? I'm in my office right now. 10:30 AM and drinking water. Had coffee earlier. I'm heading to the beach at noon. I'll be drinking Sunshine Pils and Flying Fish Farmhouse there. Last night I drank the growler of Sly Fox Pikeland Pils. It was remarkable. I tried to get a sixtel of it but they were out of it in sixtels. A hoppy pils, but refreshing.
Commercial Description:
Known as Sly Fox Keller when served unfiltered. "An unfiltered 'cellar' version of our Pikeland Pilsner, cloudy and golden in the glass, crisp and dry on the tongue. Brewed with imported German Pils malt and hopped with German and Czech hops."
Gold Medal, GABF 2000; Bronze Medal, GABF 2003. A Northern German style Pilsner brewed with imported German Pils malt and hopped with German and Czech hops. Light in body, light straw in color and dry.

It's ~1040 am, and I am drinking a pale ale that only the brewer should drink. . . .
if the brewer is made to drink all of the mediocre beers he produces, perhaps he will try harder to produce a better drink. . . .
As is the beer I produced which I am drinking now. . .not an undrinkable beer, but not one that makes me want to drink another either.
. . . it's a pale ale with a character in which the yeast is yelling, "I should've been used in a stout!!!!.

No, I just use a single cup Melita cone. I try to not drink more than one cup per day so this is the best way. Also, I make my coffee very strong, but not nearly as strong as my wife makes hers so this way we customize our coffees. But then again, she screws hers up with milk and sugar. My wife likes very weak, I call it flavorless coffee. So she makes hers and I make mine. I would rather use a press but it takes longer and more messin around. So usually its a weekend or day off thing.

Last night the line up was:
Coniston Bluebird Bitter
Youngs St. George's Ale
Stone Pale Ale
Stone Smoked Porter
Stone IPA
Stone Arrogant Bastard
Stone Ruination IPA
Stone 10th Anniversary
Stone Double Bastard 06
Stone Imperial Stout
Had the Coniston and Youngs before the Stone tasting hosted by brewery co-owner Steve Wagner and the Mid Atlantic rep Scott Sheridan. I enjoyed most of the beers and it was nice to revisit some of them. I had forgotten how well the hops are paired with a solid malt backbone. The Pale Ale will now be available in their entire distribution area. Previously it had been available in their limited home area. I thought it was a nice earthy pale ale. The Smoked Porter was also very nice. Only the slightest hint of smoke. Plenty of chocolate notes and not overdone roasty like so many American porters and stouts tend to be. I liked it a lot. I can't recall having it before. The other that I had not had was the 10th Anniversary.
Wagner said that the Vertical Epic beer series is continuing to improve with age. He says that they sample them and post info on the website to keep everyone informed if one of the years should go past prime. I have several years of the Vertical series but not all. However, an occasional poster here on Realbeer, Beerking, was with our group last night at my table and he has 2 bottles of the entire series so far including the rare 02/02/02. I have a bottle of the one batch Sawyer too. So when the time comes.....I'll be sampling the whole series most likely.

I would, totally. I'm really enjoying it. Funny enough, the other beer of the weekend has been Sunshine Pils.
Arcadia IPA. Actually the first one was half foam even though I poured it very slowly. The beer was also very cloudy. It tasted off so I dumped it. The second one poured clear but it is lacking hops flavor and tastes off.

Only reason I'm saying something is that you had me very excited for a second, thinking that SN had a new beer out for me to try... :D

Heh. I must admit, it is a bit odd. I used up a buch of leftovers for this one. Basically an amber pale ale with earthy fuggles bitterness and citrusy cascade flavor and aroma. It's not the worst I've made, but it's not the best either. I was shooting for a light to medium session beer and I over-hopped it. It's ok, but I'd lighten up on the hops if I did it again.

I was at my local paint shop a few weeks ago, and I was talking to the fellow who knows all about their beers and always give great recommendations, and he gave me a free bottle of this. He told me to try it on a nice hot night and come back and tell him what I thought.
This being my first ever Lambic(I took a sip of the Sam Adams Cranberry Lambic, but I really hated it), I was pleasantly surprised. This is fantastic. It's not something that I would drink all the time, but it sure is a nice change of pace.

None of the 4 speak any English, but they do enjoy eating and drinking, and 3 of them have never been to the states before. We've got a beach house for a week, then up to Lynchburg VA for a couple of days to see friends, and then back to NM.

well you got me thinking about the 4- grains and Hop Hog also by Lancaster Brewing Co.
The Hop Hog sells as an India Pale Ale and the 4- grains sells as a Pale Ale. Both are very drinkable.
The Hop Hog which I prefer seems more like a well balanced pale ale, while the 4-grains reminds me more of a lager. The Hop Hog goes down smoother and has a bit of a hop spice, which I find not to be over powering.
The 4- grains seems to bring out more malts than hops in it's taste, which is why I think of it as a lager rather than a pale ale.
I'm not a beer expert but I hope this helps and will lead people to search for these fine beers.

Had that promised Paulaner Helles. Interesting beer in that it has about the softest mouth-feel of any beer I've had. A biproduct of double decoction mashing.
Unfortunately, I didn't find it as satisfying in the melanoidin malt flavor I got from the Hofbrauhaus Helles I had 2 nights ago. Sort of a slight tangy, almost sour hop flavor in there too (bottled last month).
But nothing to turn me away, still a nice drink. I have another for tomorrow to compare.

Festina Peche
Availability: Summer
Release Date: June 1st each year
New in 2007!
A refreshing neo-BerlinerWeisse fermented with honest-to-goodness peaches to (get this!) 4.5% abv! Because extreme beers don't have to be extremely boozy! Available in 4-pack and draft during the sweaty months.
Sadly, there are only two breweries left in Berlin still brewing the BerlinerWeisse style which is characterized by its intense tartness. There were once over 70 breweries in Berlin alone making this beer! In addition to fermentation with an ale yeast, Berliner Weisse is traditionally fermented with lactic cultures to produce its acidic or green apple-like character. It is delicately hopped with a pale straw color and served as an aperitif or summertime quencher. To soften the intense sourness, Berliner Weisse is traditionally served with a dash of essence of woodruff or raspberry syrup.
In our Festinal Peche since the natural peach sugars are eaten by the yeast, the fruit complexity is woven into both the aroma and the taste of the beer so there is no need to doctor it with woodruff or raspberry syrup - open and enjoy!
"In a market where summer seasonal offerings have all become same-y and overdone, Dogfish Head offers us something different." The Alstrom Brothers, Beer Advocate

I picked up a six-pack of Anheuser-Busch's new gluten-free Redbridge Lager at the Market Street grocery in Colleyville, TX. It's really not a bad brew. I like it better than anything else of their's that I have drank. Was wondering if anyone else had tried it and what they thought.

I had it the other day actually, part of my gluten-free beer tasting plan -- I've had the Red Bridge, Ramamp Passover Honey Ale, Lakefront's New Grist, Toleration and Green's Belgian Dark Dubbel.
They're all OK, with the Belgian being the best. It's not as full-bodied as a typical Dubbel and a little sweeter, but it's actually pretty good. I'm having the Tripel tonight.
I think once you get used to the sorghum taste, it's not bad.
I actually like Red Bridge more than Budweiser.
Great Lakes Commodore Perry IPA. Homebrew wheat.
It's a little early but my brother was over to help me pick up my new/used freezer.

Kona Wailua Wheat again. Good stuff - benefits from a good hard pour, too. :)

Hacker-Pschorr is the only Okto available year-round (BA has it backward) -- if that's even true anymore, because I don't even see that around. I'm guessing you found last year's Spaten -- though it holds up well.

I'll stick with my 600th Year of Brewing T-shirt I received from an importer contact back in 1997 (hey, this year is 610). Wore it to the Oktoberfest, where no one seemed to care Spaten was 600 years old. Chump change to Europeans.

i have to say i´ve been quite surprised at the attitude of the germans, regarding the history of the beers they drink. i´ve brought up numerous times the "first brewed in year" of the beer someone was drinking, and was met with an uninterested shrug.
i can´t explain why this is, but have often wondered about it myself.
the only remark i´ve ever heard from someone was when they saw the "since 1436" mark on a wernesgrüner bottle. he said "oh, older than the reinheitsgebot." but that was the end of it.
sticking with the thread....

Since I lost my wallet and I am waiting for a new driver's license in the mail, I'm stuck only drinking the beers I have at home -- I can't buy any for a couple of days. I may have a bottle of Horny Devil or Three Philosphers tonight.

Yep, that is kinda cool and would look good hanging in my basement but I think I'd rather have a hundred bucks worth of Spaten products in stead.

Last night Clockwork Orange joined me at the old beach homestead and we supped many brews. Primarily Flying Fish Farmhouse and Troegs Sunshine Pils from the kegerator as well as several Great Lakes bottles such as Dortmunder Gold and Burning River. We also cracked open a bomber of Dogfish Head Fort bottled last November 13. I enjoyed meeting him and talking beer. Thanks for the Rare one off Scratch beers from Troegs, and the Founders Kentucky Breakfast and Rubaeus. I hope you made the trek home OK with that case of brew. If you're back down in a few weeks, lets do it again.

Been in a bit of a rut since my fambly left last weekend. I sent all the good beer with them for the most part. All I left for myself in the fridge was the St. Arnold's Summer Pils. Tasty, but I'm ready for something else. 'Course, I DID hide the Anchor Bock and the Hofbrau Maibock, so that's sitting in a dark corner just waiting to be tucked lovingly into the fridge...

Brooklyn Summer Ale is my current beer on tap. Picking up a local micro-pilsner tomorrow.
Now i have a question. I'm very new to the micro brew world. As such, i'm not yet accustumed to identifying the flavors in beer. I basically can only say if i like it or not, or it's too heavy, or too light. I'm completely unable to say, "I really like the hoppy back, with the slight floral whatever the hell."
I was wondering if some of you could help me with techniques on how to do this. Also, can someone that has had the Brooklyn Summer Ale identify the flavors in it? To be honest, i don't know what the "Hoppy" flavor is, or what the "bitterness" is, or what the "malty" flavor is...etc in beer. Like i said, all i know is if i like it or not. Soooooo, can one of you identify the flavors in this Brooklyn Summer Ale, so i know what i'm talking about? It has a unique smell that i can't identify, and a unique after taste that is almost plant-like, again, i can't identify it. Oh, and what does the "lacing" on the side of the glass as the foam resides signify?
Help this beer noob out.

Good beer taken too much for granted. I'm starting to have that problem...after 30 years.
Allagash Wit and Paulaner Helles tonight.

BTW -- Brooklyn Summer is I.D.'ed as an English Pale Ale at BeerAdvocate, follow the links at the above thread to the BJCP site and look up the Pale Ale style for description and characteristics.

after the girlfriend went home, had a bomber of Rogue's Shakespeare Stout. As with most of the other brews I have listed here before, this was first time to try Shakespeare Stout. Quite a tasty, yet not overpowering stout. Has to be up there on my top 3 American stouts I have had.

Tonight, I'm looking for something to celebrate with -- a criminal case I've been writing about for four years has been solved. It's good to have some closure. I haven't figured out what yet.
