I've been using ProMash for a while, but have always wondered about some of the specification expressed in the different ingredients. For example, I get Black Patent Barley from my local brewshop, and they specific the ingredient as 500L. I'm assuming this grain is American (I might be wrong), but ProMash shows the same Ingredient as 525L. If the Lovibond rating is different, I'm assuming the other factors of my specific ingredient might be different as well (Gravity Potential, % Yield, etc). While I doubt they would have a dramatic affect on the final product, it might be nice to adjust for the real specifications of these products. Does anyone have luck getting more specific data on their ingredients??

typically british black patent is 525L (27 ppg) and american black patent is 500L (28 ppg).

You can edit the promash data from the main page. Select grain, black patent, and edit the lovibond for that grain. You can also add grains, hops, sugars by the same method.

I guess I didn't phrase my question well. My question is more on the line of "Where do they come up with those specifications?". I understand how to add/edit/delete the individual ingredients, and my question isn't second guessing the default specs within the program. I just want to know how to determine the specs of a particular ingedient (short of asking my LHBS - who in my case doesn't know).

promash has an excellent bulletin board. I have always been able to get fast responses to all my promash questions there. You could ask there about where the defaults come from.
