Good afternoon everyone. So, i wont be able to purchase a new stainless brew pot for a little while. Do i continue to boil 3 gal worts and add to cold in the primary or can i get away with the aluminum 7 gal pot that came with my turkey fryer, and go with a full wort boil? What hasbeen your expierience? Im brewing a blonde ale this weekend and lok forward to your opinions. Thanks a lot! Peace,Chris

Hello fellow Sox fan!

Hey I just asked that question a few days ago as I am going all-grain with my next batch...and I got a resounding ...No Problem!!...there are many here who have been brewing for years with aluminum and say they havent experienced ANY issues with off flavors...Im getting my fryer today...comes with a 7.5 aluminum ...cant wait to brew with all-grain.

GO GET EM SCHILL!!

There are somethings you need to know about al brew pots.
The are not as inert as SS so I would check out this article in byo article (http://www.byo.com/mrwizard/1019.html).

Other than that, good brew!!

good article. . .by now you've already brewed, but I just wanted to put in my 2 cents. I brewed for years in an aluminum pot without any noticable detrimental effects. Mr. Wizard had a valid point about cleaning though. . .Al very easily reacts with caustic and chlorine cleansers.

In my opinion it's always better to do a full wort boil than a concentrated, then dilute afterwards boil. I've done both, and I never got the character quality with the concentrated/dilute method that I was getting with full wort boils.

and lastly. . . .I'd love to have a big old copper brewpot. . . .

First off I use stainless and havent brewed in aluminum... that being said if it was a choice between being able to get an aluminum pot big enough for full boils or a stainless pot only 3 gallons ro so I would have went aluminum...... just dont clean it with anything caustic and dont scrub the hell outta it with anything to coarse(would imagine the plastic scrubby pads would be perfect for this) as long as you dont scratch the hell outta it and take good care of it I am postitive aluminum would be just fine...

but if you dont allready have a pot do a searh at your local stores or ebay for a stainless turkey frier...... you can usualy find one with a 8 gallon (mines like a 8.5 gallon) stainless pot and a nice burner for pretty damned cheap (like around the 80 dollar mark)

Oh I see you allready have a turkey frier.... well just save up for a stainless one :)
