Hey all. Jake asked for a new thread for this year so I'll do the honors.
I had some of my Imperial Stout for the Sox's disappointing opener; and am actually sipping mead as we lead the Royals 3-0 in the top of the 4th.
Good luck to all you baseball fans & may my team win :D

Hey Soxy
Two Sox fans in a row...thats the way it should be...lol...I was not enjoying a Terrapin Imperial Pilsner while Schilling was getting shelled...Not enjoying anything yet (just got back from church)...except for a 3-1 lead by the good guys...
two words
Go Sox!...or is that World Series!

sorry.
but i do have Papelbon as a closer on my fantasy team if that makes you feel better..
nothing like waking up slightly hung over, and watching a saturday matinee from the comforts of your living room with all the windows open, a nice breeze blowing in, some dogs on the grill, and a crisp pils in a perfect glass on the coffe table..

Your welcome for Arroyo...One of the few bad trades Epstien has made since he became GM...(Dont get me wrong I like Wily Mo but...)
Sundotile...lol...thats ok..if you can believe it I married a Yankees fan...(The Lord sure has a sense of humor!)...
GO DICE K!
I save my beer for the weekend so I did not have anything for opening day. If I was their at the park that would of been different. I watched the Tigers on FSN last night and drink some Redhook ESB. The Tigers have a lot of South American players and I really don't think they play very good in cold weather.

I don't think ANYONE plays very well in cold weather! I got hit in the face with a tennis ball my husband lobbed to me the other night (40 degrees) and about fell to the ground whimpering like a baby. I can't even imagine being out in 38 degree weather and having a 97 MPH fast ball zinging at my head.
Your right! No one really plays good in cold weather. That makes me wonder why MLB is having the World Series start even later this year. I understand that all first WS games will start on a Tuesday night regardless when the NLCS & ALCS finish.

Cardinals fan here...and yes we won the series :) Too bad the stadium is called "Busch" Stadium, and at Busch Stadium, they charge $7 for a 12 oz bud light or budweiser. Luckily they got some bars in the place that sell better beer (expensive though).
I enjoyed today's day game by drinking 3 of my z-best coffee porters, what an excellent beer to drink after you wake up.
Go Cards, and thank you Dominican Republic for Albert Pujols.

had a SA black lager last night while trying to follow the reds game online, they traded and traded trying to improve the bullpen but its still killing them. And i had a quite good porter from the handpump at rockbottom in arlington the other night while watching the nats game.
I've tried to watch every Jays game so far (and any other game I could get, mainly an excuse to have a couple beers, lol) and so far only had 2 disappointments (they are 4-2). Good luck to everyone's teams! And enjoy the beer! Think I'm going to go to a game, Toronto is about 2 hrs away from where I'm originally from (which is where I'm moving back to at the end of the month) so it should be good times. Woulda liked to have gone to the home opener last night against the Royals, 9-1 baby!!! WOO!!!!

That's how I got my husband to watch baseball! Look, hon, you don't have to DO anything but sit around, drink beer & yell Go Manny once in a while :D
Good 4 game series so far between Tigers and Jay's. I almost gave up on them today but they came through in the ninth.

So Busch Stadium actually does have beer worth drinking? We just landed tickets to watch the Cubs beat up the Cards in July and I was afraid that there would be nothing to enjoy while there. What is to be found?

How can you talk of baseball with the quest for Lord Stanley's Cup has just started. or ever for that matter? The Cup I believe, well know, predates baseball's World Series.
Lay down your bats and pay hommage to the greatest most storied trophy of all time, Lord Stanley's Cup.

Comerica Park only had two beers I would touch that I could find. You had to walk to the Beer Hall along the 3rd base side. Next time I go I will buy tickets for that side of the stadium so I will not need to walk as far. It takes a lot of talent to weave back and forth between people with a full glass a beer without any spilling.

That is really my view as well. I just dislike baseball so much that I have appointed myself the unoffical baseball detractor and as such just trying to do my job.
Truth be told, I have enjoyed reading in the baseball threads to see what the beer world id like in ball parks. You ball fans have some good stories too.

You know, this surprises me. Seems most folk I know who like baseball, like hockey, and vice versa. I personally prefer baseball over all other sport, with hockey taking a distant second.

yea baseball and hocky are two sports that really stand out as being a toltally different experience watching on TV or actually being there. I love both live, and i appreciate baseball on tv alot more than alot of folks do because i enjoy seeing the movement and location of the pitches which you can't see as well live. As for Hockey on tv i'm really just now starting to watch it enough to get to appreciate it.

SO we can sweep them there in the Bronx next week!..
(Gotta say though for all you Yankee fans...the ball must look like a beach ball to A-Rod right now!)

The Tigers won one today in dramatic fashion to avoid the sweep by the CWS. Two outs in the ninth Thames ties it with a two run homer. They go on to win in the 12th. I had some Bell's Oberon for the first time this year. I think that is the best beer Bell makes. I also tried Samuel Adams Cherry Wheat for the first time. I really did not think I would like that beer but I did. Its a bit strong with the cherry flavor. My wife hates the taste of beer but I had her try the cherry wheat and see like it.

Reminds me of last year when the Dodgers hit 4 consecutive HR's in the bottom of the 9th to tie the game, then Nomar (you know him right?) hit the game winner in the 10th.:D
Anyway, I dont even like the Dodgers, I'm an Angels fan who was embarrassed by what happened in Fenway last week. But I was rooting for Boston this weekend, thats for sure.

Great American Ballpark (the Cincy Reds stadium) finally carries brews from the two local micros... Barrelhouse and Mt. Carmel
though I did find a stand with Bell's Oberon, Left Hand Milk Stout and some of the AB specialties on tap (a spiced wheat and the bareknuckle stout), along with bottles of Great Lakes Dortmunder and Elliot Ness.
I had a Ness at $5 freaking .75 for a 12oz bottle.

I've been warning everyone since last year...watch out for the boys from "Beertown"; The Brewers have quietly put together a formidable team, as the rest of the NL Central is finding out.
Prince Fielder, Ricky Weeks, J.J. Hardy, Corey Hart...the young guns are coming into their own. Don't forget Jenkins, Hall, and Estrada...
Cards fans: thanks for Mr. Suppan; rounds out the rotation nicely...:D

Yeah not much, they have a ridiculous amount of expensive bud light and budweiser. If I do recall, last time I was there I found a bar that sold Schlafly, which I do quite enjoy. I recall finding a place where they sold some of Anheuser-Busch's "specialty" filth on tap, which is still more drinkable than a bud. Oh yeah, and Bud Select, hehe. Don't expect many good brews at "Busch" stadium.

i rather like the local rock bottom like that they always have something in a cask. though i can't say this is a particularly good baseball season for me, as i grew up a reds fan and have become a Nationals fan since they moved here( especially since they have so many former reds both in the lineup and on their staff)
The Tigers see a lot of the WSox next month. The Central is tough, KC is getting their act together and if WSox don't watch it they my be passed by KC. For the most part its been a really fun summer watching & listening to the Tigers.
For those who don't know this and have moved to a location away from their favorite team or like me don't have a radio station close enough who play Tiger games. You can for $14.95 a year get all the MLB games at MLB.com.

Yes....once again Tom Hicks (let's plan for a tomorrow that never comes) and his stooge Jon Daniels gave away vital parts of a great team. Losing Gagne, Tiexiera, Lofton and Mahay was bad enough. But what did we get in return??? Catchers and minor leaguers. Texas now boasts 5, yes 5 catchers. Why??? I am telling you, the only problems with the Rangers are their owner and the front office.
I am seriously considering foregoing attending all games until I actually see something. Of course, this season is already paid for, but I may not ever purchase a "mini plan" again until they finally deliver on this promise of "next year."
As an aside to the Gagne deal, I am really surprised that he took the set up role for Papelbon. He insisted on being the closer when he came to Texas, knocking Otsuka out of the job. Boras must have really gotten him a sweet deal with the BoSox.

I was FLOORED to read that the Rangers had let go of Texiera. I'll admit I breathed a sigh of relief to see him go to the NL, but I was shocked that Texas would get rid of him.
Boras is Mr. Trade, that's for sure, so you KNOW the Gagné deal was sweet. Having him to spell Okajima should really help. Keep Timlin going strong like last night and our bull pen is looking pretty amazing.

What a season we've got going! Detroit, ya gotta start winning! Take that wild card away from those blasted Yankees!
Larin, (and any other Sox fans) did you get to see Buchholz's no-hitter? Everything in my house stopped for the last three innings. Amazing.
So, expanded rosters are on & we're down to the wire.
Anyone have any feelings about who we'll see in the series?
I am, obviously, banking on the Red Sox! I'm torn whether I think the Cubs or the Padres are going to make it.
Good luck!

Yes Maam...i saw the gem!!...now the Sox dont know what to do with Clay...lol..tough problem to have...
My thought is this
AL East
Red Sox (of course)
AL Central
Indians
AL West
Angels
AL Wild Card
Yanks (unfortunatley)
Angels beat Yanks ....Sox beat Indians
And of course Sox win Pennant!
NL East
Mets
NL Central
Cubbies
NL West
Diamondbacks
NL Wildcard
Phillies
Mets beat cubbies...Phillies beat Dbacks
Mets beat Phils
Sox beat Mets in a rematch of 86!!...redemption..lmao!!

White Sox fans : NICE PARK you got there! I LOVE the lamp posts! We must have taken 7 or 8 pictures of them between us! It was a little touch but very nice!
And of course the statue of Fisk! Had to have a picture of that as you can see to the left!
Goose Island at the park, sun NOT in our eyes, RED Sox winning, Yankees losing ; it was a great day!

They've done this sort of thing in few other places in the City. Still's no excuse for their performance this season and last. Gotta admit that the beer selection is markedly improved over the last decade or so. Back in old Comisky, Old Style was the primo brand.

Old Style still seems to be the beer brand of choice sold at Wrigley, which, to me, is still the ball park of choice in Chicago.

Holy cow!!! The Rangers have actually been on fire lately. What is up with that??? Looking at the standings, and their schedule, they could realistically take over second place in the AL West by season's end if their play keeps up. I know that this isn't necessarily a great feat for you folks would support winning teams, but for a Rangers' fan, this would be fantastic.

There's something very obviously wrong about that whole statement...
;)
All I know is, one trip to Wrigley a few years ago, a friend and I hit the men's room between innings -- it wasn't until we headed back to our seats that we saw the proximity of the Old Style stand to the back door of the facilities -- scared us both. Fortunately, we'd been drinking Goose Island.

Seems like for most of us there's a year or two of shakiness after winning that World Series...The White Sox signing Guillen for another five years shows that the front office still believes in him.

14 for 15 over the last two weeks of the season to squeak out a win in the bottom of the 13th! Soxy, better look out, because our teams just might meet in about 3 weeks.
Go ahead... bet against the Rockies. I dare you!
EDIT: I must admit to a little 'gamesmanship' in the middle of the 13th; when the Padres went ahead by 2 I decided it was time for some drastic action, and opened a bottle of DFH 90 that I'd been saving for 3 years. Worth every drop in more ways than one!

That was a really good game last night. Wasn't sure that anyone really wanted to win it. Jake Peavy didn't seem to have his usual stuff, either. And heck, the Rockies won off of one of the most dependable closers in the business.
However, this, (I hope), is the Cubs year.

A Rockies/Cubs NLCS? I could live with that. Either team would be a very unlikely World Series candidate.
Rox won AGAIN, 4-2, this afternoon. That makes 15 of their last 16 games. Holey Schmoley!
Wonder where Soxy is these days... you'd think she'd be celebrating her Sox off!

yea the way beckett was throw last night you wonder how anyone ever scores off of him. And thats a shame about the sandlott only being open during baseball season, that place is proof that Coors isn't entirely evil, even if that place is responsible for Blue Moon, though i have heard that the stuff is better when its brewed there and lost something when they started brewing it at the big plant.

I'd take a Blue Moon over a Coors, so it's not entirely vile. Very mild beer, but quenching on a hot day.
Wish I got to see the game(s) this weekend - tough ticket to come by. I'll have to settle for seeing if they can close it out at home while sipping beers at Rock Bottom on the 16th street Mall. Rock on, Rockies! :D

That is so right on, Fret.
As we discussed earlier, we were born in the same year.
Last year represented purging, you know, taking out the trash.
I also had my car broken into last year. Not once but twice. The first time the little bastards took my small book of cd's, say 20, but my FAVORITE 20. Next time, they just took my stereo faceplate, so for roughly 3 months I drove around sound-free.
I dated a jerk who wound up being bi-polar. He has been long since lauched, but at least he can afford the meds...
After moving back from Kentucky, I heard that I lost a very good friend to a bad accident. She was 31.
Here's what I did:
In those 3 months of silent car riding I heard more than just silence. There was no escaping the feeling of losing what was once yours. But then, I had great conversations with my 5 and 6 year-olds. Eventually they asked why I didn't play music anymore. I didn't know why not, So I bought a stereo and installed it myself. It's better than the one I had..it rocks. Now my kids just ask me to turn it up.
I am learning guitar and finally singing with 2 very skilled musicians, although we haven't made it out of the garage, it's just good stuff. Now, I just need to start brewing!
In the Chinese zodiac, your year only comes up every 12 years. If my math serves me, it's our year Fret.
fretlessman71
10-05-2007, 01:48 PM
Anything has got to be better than last year - my TWO car break-ins (yes, just like you) cost me 5 of my basses to the tune of about $3200. Plus I never thought I'd be shopping for scooters and ramps online. But that's the way it goes.
Not sure how much stock I put in the Chinese calendar, but I've noticed that right around every 7th year something horrible happens. Glad that's finally over with; just hope they don't get worse as I get older - not sure I want to know what that would entail!
But if it's "OUR YEAR", then we can include the Rockies as part of our extended family, right? It can be "Their Year," too - and it sure does LOOK like it. Man... I don't get it; you turn your back for a week and they turn into a baseball team while you're not looking. Incredible!
Erin W

Congrats on the Rocks getting in. I really doubt the Sox are going to pull this one out. We were watching game 4 at work last night. Wow, have the fans turned. With them down 7-3 the coments came flying. "We got them just where we want them. Now all we have to do is bunt four times and one homerun to win it. They'll never see it coming."
No matter who gets in this year for me has been a retun to the game. Growing up I was a diehard Yankees fan. Willie Randolph was my favorite. Went to a couple of games with Dad. The first trip I was like 12. We drove down from CNY and he had found out when and where the players entered the park. I was there with my pad and a pen to get some autographs. Willie, Bucky, Thurman, Roy White, Billy Martin, I even got crusty old Lou Pinella. The game was great. We had some pretty good seats on the lower level third base side. They beat the White Sox. The next year we took a bus trip down so no autographs, but it was bat day. Dad made sure I got a Willie bat which I still have. That summer I also went to Fenway with my stepfather. Tickets were real easy to get in those days. First base box behind the dugout. Gaylord Perry got the win for the Rangers.
Then there was the strike. I walked away from the sport. I went to a few games when I lived in ATL. The fan base there was very indifferent. I even scored free tickets to both the NLCS and the World Series from a buddy whose wife worked for Coke. She couldn't give them away at Coke HQ. So moving to Boston was odd. The Red Sox Nation thing has brought me back to the game. Last year I really fought against rooting for them. Watching them lose to The Bombers felt great. But this year I don't know what happened. I actually started to follow them and root for them. It wasn't just because they were winning. It was the fans. They sucked me in.
I'll be watching the World Series this year no matter if it is Boston or Cleveland. I have found the sport again.

I don't know if you should wish for that game 7, Fret. There have been many times in WS history where the team that had the rest has lost to the team that has the momentum going in to the Series.
It for the best the Rockies did not sweep the Diamondbacks. The Tigers had to wait a week before they could play S.L waiting for the S.L/ Mets series to go 7 games last year. I KNOW I need to move on but I almost cry when I review the video clip of Mag's walk off HR in game 4 of the ALCS. The Announcer yelling THE TIGERS ARE GOING TO THE WORLD SEREIS!
I like to see the Indians win the ALCS and go on to win the WS. They have not done that since 1948. What I really wanted to see was the Yankee's go on to win their 27th WS (NOT)

Actually, I may be wrong. I was just thinking how the wait really seemed to take the steam out of the Tigers who of course lost to the Cardinals. I found this factoid in the Washington Post:
"No team has had to wait more than six days for a World Series to start and only 10 have had as much as a five-day break, although seven of those 10 teams won it all."
So...that would mean a wait would make it 70% likely that the Rox will win it all. Of course, this is by no means science.

Gonna have to go with the Rockies on this one. Bring a World Series championship back to the NL West! (As long as its not the dodgers!)

Jeeeeze -- WTF? Are the Indians the new Cubbies?
Yeah, throwing my satchel on the Rockies bandwagon for this one, I'm afraid!
S.
Hats off to the Red Sox fans. After their win over the Indians and as the Indians players made their walk down the corridor with heads hung low in great disappointment RSox fans line the corridor clapping their hands for the Indian players with shouts of encouragement and slaps on the back. I'm becoming to believe RSox fans to be the best in all of baseball.
They also gave Tiger pitcher Justin Verlander a standing ovation for pitching an outstanding game against their own Red Sox team earlier this summer. I can't recall ever an opposing pitcher getting an standing ovation from opposing fans.
I'm now in the 600 club! Maybe not such a great number when it comes to post but great if they were HR'S.

Uh...no. At least the Tribe lead us to believe that they are actually going to the dance. You always know with the Cubs that somewhere, somehow, there is a Steve Bartman or a goat just waiting to upset everything.

And really, I wanted the Indians to be in the classic!

Yeah, well, that's why it's a 7 game series.
Heard a stat (which is probably worth exactly what I paid for it) where the previous record for a lopsided victory was an 11 run margin in Game 1. The two teams that reached that mark managed to turn right around and LOSE the Series. So I'm holding on to that. The rust is off, for the most part; let's see how they play tonight. :)

At least it was a real game last night. Good to see we could at least hold our own. Think just how interesting the games will be at Coors Field - from the smallest outfield in the majors to the biggest, and lots of room for the outfielders to run around at a mile above sea level. Wonder if it will make an appreciable difference...

Okay, that one had me chewing on my fingernails for a bit. Deep breath here, though. I haven't checked but it's supposed to be Lester pitching tonight and our bullpen WORKED last night, so I'll admit I'm a little nervous about tonight.
I can't BELIEVE how big that outfield is, Fret! Holy Cow! I was getting winded just watching them run around out there.
Jake, I think that the respect for the players on other teams is from the loving of the game, and I think it's universal among true fans everywhere. But it's nice to hear some good things about my fellow Red Sox fans!
And congrats on the 600!

well its definately gonna be Lester, because wakefield isn't on the roster and why risk Beckett on short rest with a 3-0 lead when worst case scenario you can just have him pitch tomorrow night on regular rest. I must say though, if Lester can get it done that gives them 3 very young starters to anchor their rotation next year, even if schilling retires.

Fenway is the smallest; Coors is the largest. Wild, eh?
I suppose if the Sox could do it to the Yanks 3 years ago, then it can be done, right? Okay, I won't lose hope. We'll start with one tonight and go from there. But we'll need real pitching, and we didn't get that from anyone whose last name started with F last night. *sigh*

That is probably true but New York fans do a lot of booing and calling for the firing of managers or benching or trading of players when performance expectations are not what they think. They have the best baseball player of all time (IMO) in A Rod but look how they get down on him at times is sad.
Were I heard that bit of news about the Sox fans was from Paul Harvey News & Comments.

A-Rod may be the greatest statistical player when all is said and done. He certainly has all the tools but crumbles under pressure.
Want to be paid $25 mil/year? Use some of that $$ to grow thicker skin. He's paid to perform when it matters. This season aside, the Yanks probably make the playoffs w/o him. He was brought in and paid to get them over the hump of not winning a WS title in 7 years.
He failed. He's not the only one. Just the highest paid one.
And now it appears, he'll be someone else's "problem".
Hopefully, not the Red Sox.

Amazing! Wait 29 years (for me) to see my team win one, knowing it's been 86 years for the team...Then to have them do it TWICE in a decade! It's quite surreal.
And Lester really, really came through, didn't he? Give that man a hug, and forgive me my doubts. I'm looking forward to watching him pitch next year.
How cool for guys like Ellsbury & Pedroia...Jeez, Ellsbury will still be a rookie next year! And THEY certainly made it possible for the Sox to win. Oh, and that pinch hit home run by Kielty! Heck, even Pap & Lester are relative newbies...
The Rockies sure tried, though, didn't they? They gave me some real knuckle-biting moments there. And for such a young team to have pushed so far is really something. Best of luck to the Rockies for next year! The certainly have the heart to go all the way.

Hopefully not the Rockies either. Then again, there's no way the Monforts would spend that kind of money on a player, even if they HAVE changed their line of thinking.
I do think that this Rockies team will be even better next year. I think there are a few kids in the farm system that are still going to turn some heads around here, and if ownership steps up and makes a few offers our starters can't refuse, we could be a force for some time.

Do you both really mean that? I would love for him to be a Tiger problem, but Detroit is not a big enough market for him despite attendance over 3 million for the first time in team history.
I just heard the news of the Tigers big trade. They acquire shortstop Edgar Renteria from the Braves for two minor league players.

Oh well...I don't believe any of us saw a sweep coming.
Now...on to other matters. Did y'all hear where A-Rod opted out of his contract??? Will the Boston gurus toss him a handsome contract and send either Lowell (who is a free agent now) or Lugo packing?

Wow. I would have never bet on a sweep. Anyway, congrats to all the Bosox fans. I have always been an O's fan, but in recent years, the devil that is Peter Angelos has just about turned me off. Some buddies and I went to the Bosox/O's series in august this year and the stadium had to be 80/20 Sox fans to O's fans! That was pretty impressive!
As far as A-rod goes, I am, for once, glad I am not Theo! On the one hand, A-Rod is the best player in baseball...on the other hand, Boston is clicking along pretty good from within right about now. I think if they did entertain a trade, they would have to look away from Lowell. Man what a gamer!

Tough call.
My guess is they'll try to retain Lowell for "reasonable" $$.
If they can't, one rumor has Youk moving back to 3rd and the search for a 1st basemen begins. Possibly one of the Sox minor league players like Brandon Moss.
Can't see tossing $300 mil. at A-Rod.

Yes, I mean it. The stats are hard to ignore, but so is the lack of leadership, postseason production, etc.
If you could retain a player (Lowell) that led your team in RBI, is loved by the fans, teammates and management for 1/4 of the $$ A-Rod will be seeking, you wouldn't?
Fenway sells out every night. They can't pack any more fans in. I don't see any marketing advantage to bringing A-Rod in.
Again, the stats are hard to ignore, but by the end of his contract, A-Rod will be nothing more than a $30 mil/yr. DH. A pricier Barry Bonds. You want it? Take it.
The Sox have lucked OUT of some deals over the past few years - they've offered Pedro, Nomar, Mo Vaughn and A-Rod big money. Yet all went elsewhere and had no postseason success while the Sox have won 2 WS titles.
What curse?

I agree whole-heartedly. We've been lucky to have a team that MESHES well with each other, whether "the Idiots" or the 07 team; no more 25 player, 25 cabs like it was at one time. A-Rod never really fit in in New York and the question has to be was it the other 24 players? The fans pre-judging him? The fans fed up with him? or is it A-Rod himself?
Lowell has certainly proved himself and if Theo proves true to form I believe he's much more likely to re-sign Mikey than throw A-Rod in there...but I've been wrong before.
I don't mean to change the subject but I was thinking today about champions and I was wondering if we will ever see a true dynasty again. They are starting to call winning 3 out of the last five Super Bowls a mini dynasty or 3 of the past 6 NBA Championships a mini dynasty but I guess my definition of a dynasty is 5 straight championships. Teams I think that had a dynasty are- NBA: the Bull's and before that Boston, NHL: N.Y. Islanders and before that Montreal, MLB: NY Yankees and before that N.Y. Yankees, NFL: S.F. 49ers and before that Steelers. With free agency and salary caps we my see a lot of short lived champions. Or as they call them these day "mini dynasty"

New math
The Cubs were swept 3-0 in the NL Division Series by the Diamondbacks who were swept 4-0 in the NL Championship Series by the Rockies, who were swept 4-0 in the World Series by the Red Sox.
So it's a mathematic certainty that if the Cubs played the Red Sox in a best-of-21 series, Boston would win 11 games to none.

Another thing to think about, though, where Lowell is concerned. There is the very real possibility that the Steinbrenner crew will toss some serious money his way to make him the next Yankee F5. He did, after all, begin his career as a Yankee. And now, with A-Rod opting out of his contract, Cashman is probably feeling the pressure to a) live up to the "official" Yankee announcement that the team will not deal with A-Rod should he choose to opt out, b) not get into any bidding war over A-Rod, as that is not the Steinbrenner style, and c) replace A-Rod with a viable candidate. Who better than the current World Series MVP, who is also now a free agent?

Hey y'all took a hiatus from Realbeer....and I missed all the fun in my favorite thread!!...
1st to Soxy!!.. who'd a thunk we'd see two in our lifetime never mind 2 in 4 years (the only team to win twice in this millenium)
Our boys our gonna have to be careful might get us expecting them to win all the time or somethin...lol
I figured it out btw...it was my fault...the last 30+ years or so anyway...I moved from MA to TN in June of 04...since then theyve won it twice...lol
Good news ...Joe Torre and Donnie Baseball go to LA ...where I can bring myself to root for two amazing baseball men now that they are out of pinstripes!!!
More good news Alice Rodriguez stays in NY...hmmm...lets see he wins MVP's like they are free...but no team has gone to a WS with him...that was smart of the Yankees wasnt it...almost as smart as letting the two i mentioned above go...
one last thing...since the new ownership including Theo and Tito have taken over i try not to question them ...as they obviously know what it takes to build a winning team...but
SIGN MIKEY LOWELL!
TC y'all...time to talk football...lol (GO PATS)

In 2004, After coming so close in 2003, I could actually believe it! This time I'm having some trouble believing it's happened! I keep thinking I've slipped into a parallel universe or something. It's a great feeling, though!
And I am happy we signed Lowell and Schill. You have to wonder how many players are going to think twice about the advice given them by Boras...A ten year commitment is INSANE, I don't care if it is A-rod, maybe most particularly because it IS A-Rod.
Enjoy your football, all.
