Howdy All-
In a recent thread, I indicated that i'd never had a blowoff when using a 6.5 gallon carboy...Well
We decided to start a new ale over the yeastcake from the previous batch, (primary)something i'd never done before. Perhaps the fact that it started within 2 hours should've told me something(I usually have 6-8 hours lag with starter), but there seemed to be plenty of headspace and the OG was only 1.044, thought i'd be fine. WHAT A MESS!!
Fortunately, the airlock somehow stayed in the fermenter, but it blew its top and spewed all over the counter. Guess this is what happens when you really use enough yeast; From now on, i'll be using a blowoff tube whenever I reuse like this.
