It appears that Latrobe Brewing is bringing out Rock Green Light in painted label bottles. It will have 92 calories and 2.6 grams of carbs. Has anyone tasted any of these low carb beers? Usually when I see low cal or low carb it means NO taste. I have not had regular Rolling Rock in years. I can't imagine this being any good.

well, i can't find where i found the info (not even listed on the guinness beer faq (http://www.ivo.se/guinness/specs.html), but i seem to recall that guinness draught is lower in calories than a glass of OJ or even the so called lite beers.

as far as carbs? no clue.

The only low carb beer I've tried is Micholobe (sp) Ultra. Not a real bad tasting beer, but I prefer my HB.

I saw the Rock Green Light in the grocery store yesterday - couldn't decide whether to snicker or shudder...kept on walking.

According to our own host, Real Beer.com, Guinness Draught has 10 carbs per 12 ounces: http://www.realbeer.com/edu/health/calories.php

I'm not writing this as a direct attack on GunNut, but I recall trying Michelob Ultra a year or so ago at our neighborhood's annual sausagefest. It was probably the worst beer I have ever tasted in my life. The taste was extremely strange, and something I hope to never experience again.

Neighborhood sausage fest. That sounds interesting. What kinds of sausage and what kinds of beer?

Just remember that the measures I gave you were based on 12 ounces...that's 3.9 you have to pour out! :O

The annual Snowshoe Drive Sausagefest occurs between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Tony, the host of the shindig, has a pretty good palate for fine ale---he's a big fan of English Ales and makes sure there are plenty on hand. He also demands that my neighbor and I bring a comparable amount of the homebrew we have available. Unfortunately, swill is available for the mullions. As for food, we get the sausage from a place called Avril's in downtown Cincinnati (they make their own). We try to get as much variety as possible, like Chorizo, Polish, Italian, Bratwurst, Mettwurst, Cheddarwurst, etc., etc. We have sauerkraut, potato salad, home fries.....oh, I'm sorry, are you gettin' hungry?!? I am looking forward to this year's event. Maybe we all should try to organize some type of comparable shindig in late winter or something. Maybe a good bonding event? Comments?

I can have sausage on the evil diet. Sauerkraut too. And I guess i could go off for day for the English Ales!

One of the guys I brew with is on the Atkins life change as well. He has started brewing his beer with Beano tablets in them. We read on BYO that it lowers the carbs in your beer. It has not affected the flavor of his beers. I don't know if it is truly loweing the carb count or not. Here is a link to the BYO article.
