This is probably a very dumb question but how are the "New Posts" Determined, as that is usually the first place i go to see what is new on the boards. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's part of the database and connected to the cookie that recognizes you and the last time you've visited the site - and that's about as much info as I can provide.
I know that I can connect (I always stay logged on, but not with the page always open) at one point and come back 30 minutes later and the New Posts will have updated based on what I'd last seen.

I've found that if I just close the window or go to another website, I don't get all the new posts. For that reason, I usually log out completely and then log back in when I come back. Logging out will clear the cookie and you won't miss any posts.

for a technie note - a webserver has no idea how long you have looked at a webpage. It only knows when you downloaded the data and what your cookie says when you get another page.

The reason i asked is this morning i logged on and it only had 3 new posts showing, and most days around 3 pm they seem to go back to just having a few posts showing even if i was just there and there were 25 or 30 showing a few moments before. It doesnt really matter but i was just trying to understand what was going on.
