For a guy who is at least half German, I sure as hell can't seem to make anything other than English beers. This "premium light American lager" I just made is one damn fine ordinary bitter.

Not that I'm complaining, mind you. I'm just saying.

The English and the Germans only pretend to not like each other's beers. They both want to be #1 and don't want to give any indication the other guy is a worthy opponent. The advantage of being an American is that you can take anything brought from anywhere and claim it as your own! The advantages of the melting pot.

The first 6 or 7 years I brewed I did almost exclusively English styles. My occasional Germans never turned out good at all. Now Im 50/50 Belgian and English(right now I'm drinking my English red), but I do have a dopplebock lagering.

What I like about brewing English style beers is that the malt is predominant. Yeast is secondary, and hops are not as overpowering as in so many American styles
