A personal announcement:
Today marks the end of my paying alimony to my ex. I'm definitely thrilled.
Lest you think this is not beer related, it represents a loosening of my budget constraints. I've put off getting a grain mill for at least 6 months now as well as a number of other things. I hope to be cracking my own hulls within a month.

Seriously, very cool-
Which mill did you decide on?

Well if he isnt paying alimony anymore he can prolly afford some titanium plated 6 roller job and an assistant to run it for him

I take it that the first grains you crush with it wii not be for an Alimony Ale clone?

I haven't decided yet. I've looked at the Schmidling and Crankenstein mills more than once (a few others only once). The Crankenstein has a nice hopper setup. I'm a Mechanical Engineer so I know that Titanium is not the optimal material for rollers (ahem). My bicycle is titanium, but my mill will have steel rollers.
My biggest criteria is a good crush, with the grain broken up nicely but without creating lots of flour. The rollers should be adjustable at both ends. The three roller systems seem nice, but I don't know if they give a better result or not. Whether the mill will process 15 lbs of grain in 1 minute or 5 minutes is irrelevant. I'll spend money on quality and function. I also prefer roller bearings over bushings.
Any suggestions?

mmmmmm, titanium. I'm still rolling on Aluminum. As far as the mill goes, I just got a Schmidling. It works, but I really have nothing to compare it to.

I picked up a Barley Crusher and am very happy with it. First batch out of it I got 78% eff. I can live with that.

So you like the mill? Good control over the roller spacing? Good construction? Any other observations/impressions?

My only complaint about the mill is that the base plate is not big enought to cover the top of a cooler or a plastic bucket but that will be easy enough to modify. Solid construction with screws holding the adjustments so that they are locked in. I may modify towards the CnS with a bar to keep everything together and swap out the phillips screws for wing bolts but I am very happy with what I got for the money. It will hand crank 10 lbs in very short order.

Better Off Without A Wife
All my friends are married
Every Tom and Dick and Harry
You must be strong if you’re to go it alone
Here’s to the bachelors and the Bowery bums
Those who feel that they’re the ones
That are better off without a wife
Cause I like to sleep until the crack of noon
Midnight howlin’ at the moon
Goin’ out when I want to,
And I’m comin’ home when I please
Don’t have to ask permission
If I wanna go out fishin’
Never have to ask for the keys
I’ve never been no Valentino
But I had a girl who lived in Reno
Left me for a trumpet player
Well, it didn’t get me down
He was wanted for assault
And though he said it weren’t his fault
You know the coppers rode him right out of town
I’ll be sleeping until the crack of noon
Midnight howlin’ at the moon
And I’ll be goin’ out when I want to
Comin’ home when I please
Don’t have to ask permission
If I wanna go out fishin’
Never have to ask for the keys
Yeah, you see I’m kinda selfish about my privacy
Now as long as I can be with me
We get along so well I can’t even believe it
I love to chew the fat with folks
I’ll be listening to all your dirty jokes
I’m so thankful for these friends I do receive
I’ll be sleeping until the crack of noon
Midnight howlin’ at the moon
And I’ll be goin’ out when I want to
Comin’ home when I please
Don’t have to ask permission
If I wanna go out fishin’
Never have to ask for the keys, no
Hey, I got this girl I know, man, and I just...
She’s been married several times and...
I don’t wanna end up like her.
I mean, she’s been married so many times
she’s got rice-marks all over her face.
Yeah, you know the kind...

Waits is great. Raindogs is his best album IMHO.

Congrats on derailing the gravy train!

I like the label advertised in the Last BYO. To go with the theme:
My
ex won't ever taste this
Beer
:D
Thank you for the song Meridian. And yes, I am free from some objectionable issues. The money was small in comparison.
