I understand your mission to find great beer in North Carolina. However there is usually a gleam. Not a great event but it is one that will allow you taste most of the breweries in the Carolinas. At this years, WBF I tasted a variety of oktoberfest. Consistently, The Weeping Radish, Liberty Ale, Greenshields and most recently the Mash House (Hometown Favorite) all have a good Oktoberfest, Brown, Porter or Stout.
Also, my other NC Favorites are Red Oak and worth a trip to Richmond, Legend Brewery.
