awwwwww... ain't he cute?
well, he will be... new RIMS setup on its way. pump on order, cut order in at the steel supplier for the new stand. already gots lots of burners & tubes & such. I've also got a bunch of watlow firerod cartridge heaters waitin around with nothing to do ;-)
PID controllers? you want PID controllers, I've got pid controllers, prolly post some for sale soon too.. got a boat-load of em.. you name it.. watlow, omega.. all sortsa stuff..

This is going to be a cross between something like a pico system and RIMS. I will direct fire the mash tun and HLT to get up to temp and then use the cartridge heater to maintain, step up then mash out.
This is also going to be a real homebrew setup some day. I'm going to program my own PID routines in a microcontroller to run things, couple LCD displays to graph temp/time ...

OOOOHHHH MAN am I geeked.. wish the stupid pump would arrive so I can get started. should have the steel for the stand tomorrow. course, got a bunch of stupid brew-fun b-day parties to attend this weekend so that throws a wrench in the works. at least for welding the stand, mounting the pump etc. I was hoping that I could run the system with water to see what sorts of temp rise rates I can hit, etc. oh well.. patience is a virtue, or some crap

Be sure to take some pictures of your RIMS when your done putting it together.
Damn I wish the Admins would turn on the [img] code for things like pics of systems and such... Sometimes it would be really nice to be able to show pictures of a finished beer.. and not have to click a link.

will do. Pump just arrived in my office a few minutes ago. WHEEE
the march 809 HS is much smaller than I had thought.
I'll start putting a photo album or something together on the build. fun stuff

I'd like to build a system too, one day this Summer.

So, when you start selling controllers, please let me know.

Pictures would be much appreciated.

if you can solder & make a "case" for it. I've got an Omron E5A for you right now.. PM me if you're interested. they are all PID. You would have to add an SSR tho if you wanted it to run a heater. works fine for reading thermocouples as-is (J,K and a few other types).

went out and put everything together. I didn't run the heater in the thing yet, but hooked everything up.. pics to come tomorrow after I get it off the camera.. OMG am I stoked. Just also got offered a steel conical fermenter.. cheap.. decisions decisions

anyway.. RIMS setup is only now waiting on a new stand and then to be put together. I want to make a control panel and have to hook-up GFCI etc.

Yes he did, until he did a little reading up last night.

I might be interested in this particiular device, however, I'm concerned about the "making the case part?" I looked at Omegas and other brands. Bear with me, this is all new to me.

I weld and solder and could probably fabricate a tin or wooden case for the PID.

I'll PM you with some questions, soonest, or when I get the time.

all it means is that the outer cover for the back which converted the unit from edge connectors to screw terminals is missing. for one of the ones I have, all I did was solder the wires to the pads of the edge connector. you wouldn't even have to make a case, as long as you had the thing mounted in a splash-proof area.

I've got quite a few of these things and a huge spool of type K thermocouple wire. if you've got a thermowell, you can make your own T/C then. I also have 4 or 5 of the watlow firerod cartridge heaters too. 1500 watt heater with a thermocouple built-in

wheeeeee!

I'm using the watlow 935a right now. I've got 2 of em. eventually I want to go whole hog with this (as I am wont to do) and I'll program a few microcontrollers to run the thing for me.. graphing LCD to show temp vs time and all kindsa geeky stuff I have planned. so eventually the watlows will be available too, but dont hold your breath on them ;-)

Man, you guys really make me want to geek out on this s**t. Good thing I have a wife to keep me in check.
