Is it just me or has anybody else out there had some of their most technically incorrect brews turn out to be some of the
most drinkable beers they've brewed???

I've had total disasters turn into good beer, but its not something I count on happening. I've dropped a wrench into the boiling kettle, shoved stoppers into carboys, you name it. My wife is working on a master's degree, and she always picks brewday to write papers and I'm her proofreader. This leads to mashing in too hot, being inside when its time to drop the aroma hops in, all sorts of things like that. But so far the beers have turned out good.

Thought I probably wasn't alone, I once dropped a crescent wrench in a fermenter, while removing the fittine from my brewpot, and found it to be perfectly drinkable.. . ..

Thanks Corky, maybe a good title for this post would be near disaster. . .

actually, the circumstance that I brought it up for was that a circuit breaker kicked out and I lost boil for at least an hour, by the time I heated back up and finished the brew and pitched the yeast, I'd fallen asleep, and let my lager ferment for a considerable time at room temp.. . ..
. . but no complaints. . .

Once I had to turn off my kettles just as it started to boil so I could get my sick daughter from school and take her to the doctor. It was 4 hours before I got started again, the wort had cooled to 75F so it took forever to boil. I've also had wonderful experiences like the pickup tube falling off in the mash tun, and in the kettle, fermenter lids blowing off, a cracked carboy. If you brew long enough, this kind of stuff will happen.
