So i just opened my first bottle from my batch and it tastes pretty good but it started foaming up as soon as i opened it and hasn't stopped for 5 min. It's in the sink right now erupting. Is this normal??

Hmmm.. Ya gots ta ask a couple questions:
Was fermentation complete when you bottled?
How much sugar did you use at botteling, and on how much beer?
Are you sure there is no infection?
Tell us what you brewed, and how, including time periods & temps
We'll start there. But, if it tasts good, then you did'nt really go wrong, did you?

If it foams but tastes good, just get it a little colder and let it warm up slowly to get to optimum drinking temp.

thanks for the suggestions. The second bottle i opened was perfect. Not sure what happened with the first. There was a lot of sedement in it. I think it may have been the very last bottle i capped. Could that have had anything to do with it? also, i suppose the second bottle was in the fridge longer. either way, it's tasting great and i feel like this has been a successful first brew. thanks for all the help.

sounds like you didn't get the first bottle sanitized properly and it got infected. big eruptions are the signature of infections...

nothing that can harm you can survive in beer. infections just make beer taste sour

that's a relief, i had poison control on hold. It didn't taste sour to me, maybe it was just foamy. thanks for the info.

It could also be that you didn't get your priming sugar stirred in well and that bottle had more in it.
