Just a quick introduction, if I may: My name is Bill and I live in Dallas, Georgia, which is maybe 25 minutes away from Marietta.

I am originally from Rothenburg ob der Tauber in the Bavarian state of Germany (born there) and my family (American father, German mother) came to the US in 1960. I am a Viet Nam veteran having proudly served my adoptive country at Khe Sanh from '70-71 as an Air Force cop. I finished my tour on a SAC base in Minot North Dakota.

My compliments on the site and its color scheme, it is really easy on the eyes, and I like the fact that every other field is different.

Anyway, thanks for the site and thanks for having me here!

Bill

Welcome, Bill. And thank you for your service. So, what beers do you favor?

Yes, welcome. I think there are a few other Georgians on the boards.

Hey Guys!

And thanks for that welcome, most appreciated.

As far as my tastes in beer, my favorite Pils is Bitburger ("Bitte Ein Bit!" sticker is on the rear windshield of my car), and when I am home in Rothenburg, my friends and I enjoy Hefeweizen.

Here in the States, my beer of choice is Amber Bock, but I am open-minded, and my friend Tim has recently given me 4 bottles of his very fine home brew.

I will have to tell him about this site!

Again thanks for the welcome!

Bill, ever get into Bismark while at Minot? I have a friend who spent some of his service at Minot and introduced me to a lot of friendly folks in Bismark -- one who was a local senator and owned a tavern...

I did, Steve, but I am not sure of the tavern you mean since we didn't get off-base all that much. There was usually a Broken Arrow exercise or an ORI going on.......

Funny story, when we would get passes a bunch of us would go into Bismarck for concerts. (Bloodrock was one and Johnny Winter was another we saw).

Well, in order to "fit in" with the "townies" we all bought long haired wigs which we wore with headbands, bell-bottoms and the requisite peace-symbol t-shirts.:D

Keep in mind, we were stationed on a SAC base, and we had to be sharp all the time, so that was our "disguise"!

When I think back on those days, and what I would look like today (I'm 57) in that get-up, I have to laugh!

I remember seeing Bloodrock in the stadium of the local high school one summer way back when. Well actually I don't remember much and that was not only from the beer that night. It was when D.O.A. was out on the radio.

All right, guys, Chaz just caused me to have a "nostalgia attack", so I am listening to my downloaded version of DOA as we "speak"!

Just ain't the same without that "haze" in the air, however!

Bill -- our friend was Bob Martenson, but I don't recall the name of his Tavern. I think he's still around Bismark and active in politics. He was also a Lt. Col in the Army National Guard in ND.

I found Bismark (and Fargo, for that matter) pretty wild in that you were either a metal rocker or a country/western fan - nothing in-between. Pretty wild days.

Hey everybody, I thought I would use this thread instead of starting a new one saying the same darn thing!

So, anyway I am new here, I have been lurking for a bit but thought I would make myself a realmember of realbeer! :D

I am from Alberta, Canada. A place where I don't get to try too many different kinds of beers but, when I travel I always make up for it!! My favorite beer is Coors Light, wish I could drink the Original but they don't sell it here.

I look forward to chatting with ya's about different kinds if beer!!

craft beer can go by many definitions but we as a group tend to shy away from the products offered by the BIG 3, Bud, Miller and Coors (or around here sometimes referred to as BMC, or many other derogatory names Crudwater, Boors , Swiller etc.)

Not sure what's available to you up in the Great White North but look for products that come from smaller local breweries that are handcrafted with pride and quality ingredients.
