As I've referred to in some recent posts, I'm in the process of building a kegerator. I originally intended to convert a Sanyo 1412 but have stepped up and am using a 9 cu' Fridgidare chest freezer.
I recently shopped around and priced out the kegs and regulators and wanted to share my results.
I found www.kegkits.com advertised in BYO and decided to check them out. Their online store is incomplete and they are currently selling via ebay. I thought the prices seemed quite reasonable and decided to take a chance.
I purchased a "3 Keg Kit" without a CO2 cylinder, since I had been told many of the gas places in my area only do exchanges, so I didn't see paying extra for a shiny new cylinder only to trade it in. I also upgraded to a dual regulator so I can run two different pressures at the same time.
Costs (rounded to nearest dollar):
3 Keg kit (included 3 used cornies plus all fittings, hoses, 3 cobra taps, etc): $173
Regulator upgrade: $34
Shipping was very reasonable at about $20.
OK, so how did they look when they arrived?
All three kegs arrived under pressure and still had about a cup of sanitizer in each. No crud or anything inside, and most of the rubber parts looked new, no odors. Two were Firestone and the third is a Cornelius. They looked almost ready to fill! I've disassembled and done a cleaning with OxyClean and sanitzed them.
The outside of the kegs are pretty good. All labels have been removed. I did have to use some Goof-Off to remove some old adhesive, and cleaned the outside with some orange cleaner and blue 3M scruffy (they don't scratch like the green ones), but could have skipped that step. One keg has two minor dents.
Overall I am pleased with the quality from this vendor and would recommend him. The shipping was a bit slow, but it was right before Christmas so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt - they did provide me with tracking info.
Anyone else have some good sources to recommend for those thinking about taking the plunge into kegging?
