Hi all, my wife and I are taking a day trip to Austin to vist my brother for the day and I want to check out some of the local brewpubs. Any of you current or former Austinites have any recommendations?

Very laid back place, and you can take your pint out into the parking lot if you don't want to chat it up inside. They supposedly have pub grub, but the only time we went we just sampled the beers.

North by Northwest out on Mopac is okay, but their food is better than their beer.

There's Copper Tanks downtown, but I haven't been there in eight years, so my memory of the beer is pretty faint.

Good luck, and have a good trip!

Thanks for the tips! I went to the draught house and found it to be very good. They only had two house brews on tap, but they also had a great selection of regional micro brews. We had a few pints there then we went to NXNW for diner. As you mentioned I also found NXNW's food was better than their beer, but thats not saying much.

I will definantley return to the draught house in the future, good call, we managed to pop in on Free Brats and kraut day to boot so it was a great experience all around.
