Got a case of old homebrew bottles from a friend of mine, and despite soaking and scrubbing them I couldn't get the crud off the bottom.
Got an old water pik and gave each bottle a blast for a few seconds, got it right off. Who knew?

You should get a bottle washer. It fits onto your kitchen faucet and blasts a heavy stream of water into the bottle when you push the bottle down. It is also strong enough to wash the bottom of you carboy out. Just don't use it to clean food out of your teeth.

I'd love to get a bottle washer, that would be the right tool for the job. I'm sitting on the fence right now about kegging, so have been trying to invest as little as possible into new things to streamline the bottling process.

Maybe I got a defective bottle washer, but whenever if tried to rinse out bottles with a little crud on the bottom, I always had to use a bottle brush to get that last pesky layer off. The last time I bottled, though, I decided to soak them in PBW---made life much easier, and just needed to rinse them well with the washer instead of having to scrub.

I went to kegging after I convinced the wife it would save alot of time plus I'd have a keg to make her and the kids some soda! Which I have not done yet!
