hidy! i'm making my second ever home batch, its a Honey Belguim Ale.. maybe a bit too ambitous for a second brew as i'm already having trouble. i've got my wort in its primary and its been about 24 hours with NO BUBBLES!! i'm a bit worried i'm goign to have 5 gallons of flat something on my hands.. any ideas what to do? or do i need to worry.. i used Trappist yeast which i pitched in with my cooled wort all seemed good but then again the world seems good to the naive..

the recipie called for 1 LB of HOney at the last 5 mins. of boiling..

not sure about any thing at this point.! thanks for anyones help!!

its SUNDAY! have a beer!

Here's a few thoughts:

Was your wort cool enough when you pitched? If you have a floating thermometer be careful because the wort can be all most 20 degrees higher at the top than it is at the bottom of the thermometer. If it's 80 when submerged, it can be 95 to 100 on the surface where you pitch your yeast.

Is your wort too cool? I made the mistake of having my primary in a place where it just wasn't warm enough. I moved it to my laundry room where the temp was around 70 and it kicked off.

You can put in a little yeast energizer (teaspoon) and see if it helps. I did that in a batch and it seemed to help.

Then there's a hundred other things that could have gone wrong. Yeast wasn't very active or alive. Wort is unfermentable...

You can pitch another yeast, but you may want to use some of the extract you brewed your beer with, and make a started, then pitch.

Good luck buddy. I have the same problem right now. I brewed an all grain over the weekend, and it's just sitting there looking at me. And it's my first ever lager. I used half wheat, but didn't use a wheat yeast. So now I have to play with it.

hey thanks for the tips. i'll try pitching some energizer and see if that helps.. I do have a floating thert. and so you are right it may have been too warm, or one of those other 100 things that could have gone wrong.

Good luck with yours as well! I'll try to play around as well and see what i come up with. I read a previous thread from you and took your "laundry room tip" as well so i've got it at a steady 72, so that should be cool.. well see. Thanks!

has it taken off yet? i have had a few worts start slow, just wait if you are patient, if not, then just repitch some new yeast and make sure you follow the instructions for the YEAST....

btw, the honey gets added at the last minute because you just need to dissolve it.

Yes!! it finally did take off. patince paid.. i didn't need to add any yeast but i did crank the heat up in my place to about 72 after i did that it went..

so i'll let you know how it turns out.. i've read too that Trappist yeast can start slow especially if the OSG is high which mine was..

thanks for your replies!
