View Full Version : Three Floyds in the East Coast

Right so I was in Towson this weekend and went to Wells Liquor up there and had a look around. Picked up a few things and asked the manager why I couldnt find Three Floyds stuff anymore. He said Three Floyds had pulled out of the east coast entirely. My heart fell into my shoes. Anyone else heard anything along these lines? I was at Norms in Vienna a few weeks before and they said they thought Three Floyds may have had a fire and that they hadnt been able to get ahold of any of their stuff for a few months. Anyone know what might be going on? I know they are pretty fickle bunch up there. Could they have pulled out because of competition (Bells?) or just because they had some disgreement with a supplier? I can see that...

Cosigned. I haven't been able to find Alpha King (or any of their other offerings) in months at any of my locals. Never bothered to pester about it because there are plenty of others to try, but still, Alpha King is pretty much at the top of my IPA list. Sad news indeed; here's hoping it's just a rumor.
Oh, but while you have me thinking about it, one of my locals still has a few bottles of Gumballhead sitting around that've been on the shelf for over a year now. May have to snag 'em on principal alone. :(

Three Floyd's has had some personnel changes and experienced growth at the same time ove the past year. They've also left the Rhode Island market for the time being. Explanation I got was they were having trouble keeping up with demand for their beer. Hence, the decision to pull back and service their home market(s) first and foremost.
3F hasn't closed. Haven't heard of any facility catastrophe (fire).
They simply can't make enough beer for everyone.
Cheers!

I did the very same thing when I was at World Market. They had three lonely bottles of Black Sun Stout sitting on the shelf where all the Three Floyds stuff usually went. So I grabbed two of them to stock away. It seems like you can still find these and some Brian Boru in certain stores but I guess they are the last of the summer shipments so grab some and stock em away. Hopefully we wont need to wait too long for fresh stuff…

I've been there but it was early in their expansion. No tour or tastings. But I'd sure like to go back.

Damn, that's no good! I picked up a case of Dreadnaught recently. Maybe I'll have to stretch and make it last. The P St Whole Foods had some Gumballhead still left as of last week I believe (I would think it's more recent stock than last year ...), so maybe I'll have to pick up a few. It may be my favorite 3F brew and I'll be bummed if I can't get it next summer.

Where did you get the Dreadnaught?

The last time I saw Dreadnaught was at Well's in Baltimore, but that had to have been back mid-summer at least. :(
This whole thing has me bummed. I can't even consider this a balancing act with the recent expansion of Bell's to DC and VA, as, well, I neither live in nor frequent either area regularly. On the upside, I have plenty of Storm King and Hop Wallop stocked away for the winter, and recently discovered a local that carries Weyerbacher's Insanity (no more trips to B-more!), so things aren't all bad. At least the weather won't be the only thing warm this winter...

The Beer Yard in Wayne, PA. I'm up there visiting my fiancee's family often and drop by for a case every once in a while. Normally I'll go for one of their mixed cases (Stone or Weyerbacher or Victory on occasion), but I really like the Dreadnaught and have a hard time finding it in D.C. They have had some good 3F mixed cases in the past, too.

The Beer Yard generally mixes their own cases from whatever is on hand from that brewer, usually 3x each of 4 different styles, so it will depend on the season. I got one last fall that was Dreadnaught, Alpha King, Robert the Bruce and something else. Last time I stopped in they had subbed in Alpha Klaus.
I think I paid ~$85 for the case of Dreadnaught

So I happened to be in PA last week and stopped into the Beer Yard but the only Dreadnaught case they had was already called for. And they seem to coroborate that Three Floyds stuff has recently dried up for them as well but that they think its just due to a catch up time for local demand for the brewery and that theyll be back around soon enough.
