Well GABF is almost over, and for the first time since I started brewing I missed it. A lot of good beers took some medals and some breweries ended dry spells.

Four local (to me) and very good friends took home 5 medals between them. Boulevard, Free State and The Blind Tiger and McCoy's all took home a medal or two.

How did your local guys do?

My buddies at Alaskan Brewing got their "traditional" medal for Smoked Porter and a Silver in the Barley wine

My friends at Moose's Tooth, in Anchorage, got a Bronze in Brown Porters

The Auld Gnarly Head Barley wine from Wild Duck, in Eugene OR., got a Gold in Barley wine ...that is the best barley wine I have ever tasted....Scott brought up some of the batch that Glenn Falconer made before he passed away.. and he won the Great Alaskan Winter Brew and Barley wine Festival for January 2003..(I wonder if it was the same batch at the GABF)....I just wish I could have gone this year..........but NNNNOOOO I have to work....next year!!!

Wisconsin was well represented...I'll skip all the Miller awards because they're not real beer....
Angelic Brewery from Madison did very well, as did New Glarus; Madison's Great Dane also took home an award.
