A great brewpub has closed. Empire Brewery which had brewpubs in Buffalo, Rochester, and Syr. has closed all 3 locations. The first opened in Syr. and the brewer won a bronze medal at the GABF before they were in operation for a year. The took a gold medal another time the festival. They had good food and great beer.

They closed the Buff. one first. Next was Roch. the this past Tue the Syr location bit the dust. I have heard that the owners over extended themsleves in another venture.

Many of us in the area will sorely miss thgis pub. It was in the Syr. location that I had the chance to meet Michael Jackson.

Life and beer go on, but I had to mark the passing.

I know just how you feel...
here in Kentucky, we had a place called Oldenberg in Ft. Mitchell (near Cinci.)
they started strong but wound up growing too fast and crashing quickly...A real shame; they had probably the biggest BeerStuff collection in the world, but their brewery complex started to take on the aire of a tourist trap / thrill park!!
They still managed to make some award-winning beers along the way though.
Oldenberg OPV
Oldenberg Weiss
Oldenberg Blonde (Best "Light" beer I've ever had!)

I mourn with you...On to the wake.
Tom

We had 2 breweries in Augusta Georgia, and both closed down at the same time! ! !

One of them was also Oldenburg. I loved their crafted beers, and at $1.50 a pint (or $1.00 a pint for people with a greenjacket ticket stub from the night's game) you could drink to your hearts content for under 10 bucks!

Such a shame.

Hey Fuji I just noticed where you're from. I live in Austin, TX but I'm from Graniteville, SC. I'm sure you know but it's like 13 miles away from Augusta down I-20. One day I'm gonna move back I think, maybe I'll open a homebrew store.

Small world indeed!

We are in grave need of a homebrew supply. Closest one I know of is in Atlanta. Unless you know of any in SC near here?

The only ones I know of are all the way in Columbia. :(

Actually Fuji you should try and find out where Aiken Brew Co get their supplies - maybe it's nearer than Atlanta.

I wasn't a fan of Empire ... I like some of the others in Armory Square ... The Limerick, The Blue Tusk, Suds Factory .... ouside of the square I am a huge fan of Colemans Authentic Irish Pub.
