From (where else?) Wernesgrün, Germany, six-pack of brown bottles.
Saw the local Aldi advertising this brew some months ago, finally had the chance to grab a six pack when the GF and I did some canned-good stocking up. For those outside the Midwest, Aldi is one of those discount grocery stores with off-labled brands at great prices -- some often packaged by the big names for the store.
Pours golden in color with a good, pillowy white head -- though a bit hazy.
Great noble hop nose with some DMS back, mellow melanoidins and toasty malts present.
Sharp hop bitterness in the flavor - somewhat harsh, though not unpleasant. Good smooth, though light, toasty malts back.
Light body with the patented soft mouth-feel from double-decoction.
All in all, I believe this sixer has probably been on the shelf too long, but it's not a bad brew. The store isn't the place most go looking for liquor, especially imported beer -- but here's the kicker. $4.50 a six pack. Yeah, you read that right. It's a fine German Pils at that price and I'd get it again. My GF asked, "Is it better than Miller?" Oh yeah, even a bit stale, it has more good beer flavor than BMC would know.
