I made a 5 gallon batch of pale ale and added 1/2 oz. Cascades - dryhopped. its been in bottles for 3 weeks. Holy hops, the flavor knocks my head back. I burp 2 hours later and still taste hops. Did I use too much?

No...I have a pale ale recipe that gets one ounce dry hopped. And before my current hops problem developed, it was a killer brew....

Liam Only two hours? I think you need to double that dry hop.

I've used more than 2oz per 5gallon batch, and it worked fine. Dry hops dont add flavor as much as they add aroma.

dry hopping would add aroma but I do not believe it adds flavor. What was your hop bill buring the boil. Did you use to much? Well that is for you to determine, but what I recommend is you mail me a few samples so that I can detrmine the answer to your question :)

1 oz. Centennial or Perle hops (bittering)
1/2 oz. Cascades hops (flavoring)
1/2 oz. Cascades hops (finishing)

You should be recieving that sample in a letter any day now...

Ive been thinking its just maybe too green, 1-2-3 rule? seems like all my batches have been better at 1-2-5

thanks
Liam

wow that is not a great deal of hops to be concerned about at all. The centinl is a nice hop thoogh that should mellow over time. I would imagine though that hoppyness is not the problem.

I don't like hops but I use 1 oz of Cascade for dryhopping, left in the keg for the 3 months it took me to drink it by myself because my friends like hops even less than me.

You don't like hops but you have an ESB on tap and an IPA on deck???? Do you mean you don't like the american hop variaties?

The ESB is an all Fuggles and is very pleasant . I do like to have an IPA on tap, there are days when a nice fragrant hoppy beer is just right, but for the most part I like maltier or yeastier beers, that's why I like stouts and Belgians. I also have some homegrown Cascade I need to use so I figured an IPA would be perfect for that.
