So, I love Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. That beer was my stock beer before I began homebrewing. Now, obviously, my homebrew is my stock beer. I ran out of homebrew that was ready to drink last week and bought a six pack of SNPA. I remember SNPA is bottle conditioned, but I did not notice a "fine layer of yeast" in each bottle. I am sure it is there but now, being a homebrewer, I know what my beers look like after bottle conditioning and the amount of yeast in each bottle is noticeable. So noticeable in fact that you have to leave the last 1/4 inch or so behind when pouring in a mug so as not to drink the yeast sediment. Does SNPA still bottle condition? If so, does our homebrews have ton's more yeast per bottle?

Sierra Nevada filters the beer and then adds just the right amount of fresh fermenting wort to carbonate. Homebrewers have a LOT more yeast in suspension that will fall out to the bottom of the bottle.

I had a SNPA the other night and noticed that there wasn't the yeast ring at the bottom. They may have suspended in route to my couch, but doubt it. I guess I will have to go get some more to find out!!! They use WLP001 Californina Ale yeast or wyest equiv. Tried harvesting out of bottles, annoying.

Also, the book Clone Brews has a SNPA clone that is really close to the real thing. I try to keep it as my "house" brew on tap. All my SNPA drinking friends love it!!! It definately is tough to keep around.

The yeast at the bottom of the bottle is really, really thin...it is very hard to see.

I know, I have looked down the necks of alot of SNPA. This six pack had clean bottoms. Perhaps they got suspened in route to the couch. Although the pour was crystal clear. I have one more sitting in my fridge, standing upright, will see tonight.
