I just used my new autosiphon for the first time yesterday. How did I ever brew without it?

How do you brew with an autosiphon?

Isn't it used for racking?;)

I know. The only thing taking away from the joy I felt the first time I used one, was the knowledge that I had all the unneccisary frustration for 6 months before buying one.

I could not get a good seal between the tubing and the cane, so I wrapped it with saran wrap, this sealed it off and I was able to get the siphon started with only one stroke.

I just bought one too. I'm amazed that I never had one before. Now that I'm back at it, I got one and I think its absolutely necessary.

My starter kit had one so I've never had to live without it. Two helpful hints about auto siphons:

1) Put the hose onto the cane the minimum amount necessary to get a good seal. Every now and then, in my experience, it'll decide to get stuck on there(a real PITA) but putting it on the minimum amount seems to minimize this. This seems like it happens more with slightly warm liquids like warm sanitizer. Maybe the cane expands more than the hose, dunno.

2) If you have the end of the siphon in water, and the hose off and you push the plunger, it will shoot a stream of liquid across the room. By accident, I seem to do this (to varying degrees - usually not across the room anymore just 6" to a foot) almost everytime I brew.
