anyone want to do an spaten oktoberfest tasting sometime this week? i'm free most evenings and have a 6-pack wating to go.

if anyone has some on hand, tonight would work really well. anyway, respond with when you might be free and we can try to meet up and all figure out that elusive melanoidin flavor.

Bump - and a BTW -- Tuesday or Wednesday will be best for me on this tasting, Thursday is out for me.

Also, anyone wondering what to look for in melanoidin flavor, get a bottle of Sierra Nevada Pale ale for this tasting. When 6 oz., or so, of the SNPA is sampled beforehand, the Cascade hops will cancel out any and all hop note from the Spaten Okto and really reveal the malt characters.

I was actually able to do this with Pilsner Urquell too, and vice-versa with a side-by-side tasting of P-U and SNPA. It's funny when all you taste is great moravian malt coming from the Urquell, and very little Saaz. And then to taste the nice biscuit malts in the SNPA. Interesting experiment.

ok, i'm trying to see if i can do wednesday but i might be home too late to make it work for you midwesterners and east coasters. tuesday i will definitely be home too late. bad schedule this year. but nothing stopping anyone from going ahead without me. otherwise we can try again next week. costco had 24 spaten oktos for $20... very tempting but i didn't buy it since i already had a sixer from TJs.

Is this on? What time? I have some fresh Spaten as well. If there is an online tasting I'll try to sit in but probably should only have one bottle as I'm still taking some pain meds. ;)
