Wow, I got home tonight and found my carboy in a total mess. The fermentation had blown out through the air lock leaving yeast residue in the air lock and down the side. This is the most violent batch I have had to date.
I'm sure for you "old" timers this is nothing, but for a newbe like me it was quite a shock.

I am brewing a wheat (og was 1.052) and I used WPL380? yeast, quite a change from the "quiet" Ales I have brewed so far

I just did a wheat a couple weeks ago, it was the first bigtime ferment I had too.

If i pitch a starter batch into a bigger beer (+1.050) i just use a blow off tube rather than an airlock.

Ever since I came home one day and found beer dripping off the ceiling, I use a blow off tube for all my batches. :(
