I am making a partial mash pumpkin ale, and while I was doing my steep, I accidentally overshot my target temp. The temperature actually got up to 174 for about 3-4 minutes at the one hours mark. I shut of the gas to the burner and let it start to drop on it's own. I added a gallon of cooler water and was right down to 155.
Is the few minutes that it was at 174 going to cause me problems later on? I was steeping the grains, and the pumpkin together.

You shouldn't have a problem. Do an iodine test if you're worried.

Welcome back Deco. I often hit 175 during my mashout and it doesn't matter, especially at the end of the mash/steep.

Thanks for the responses. I guess it probably doesn't matter anyway, since I finished the brew and got it into primary. I'll know in about 6 weeks.

Wow, that one kind of slipped past me. I didn't even realize I had hit 1000.
Thanks
