Thirsty in NY

Had a bottle of some wheat beer the other night, I can't remember the name unfortunately. It was good, but one thing that struck me was the slightly sour taste it had. Is this caused by the yeast? It wasn't very bitter either. Do lack of hops cause a slight sour taste?

Hops are a bittering agent. Low hops beers are generally malty in character. The bitterness was likely yeast or possibly something else. It would be a lot easier to tell if you knew what the beer was.

Turns out it was a Blue Moon. I figured it was something slightly more exotic.

It's Coors. Of course it tasted sour. Maybe itwas just a bad bottle. I had some Blue Moon last year and I think sourness would have been an improvement. It just seemed to have no flavorat all, like a Widmer's hefeweizen.

How can you expect a company that brews lager to make an ale correctly

But thier brewing of lagers is debatable.
I've had Blue Moon too and found it pretty flavorless. It is a witbier, which is a Belgian style. Hoegaarden is a better example of the beer (and my own is better yet ;) ). Witbier is brewed with a non floculating yeast that stays in suspension, a small quantity of hops, and with corriander and bitter orange peel for flavoring. They are quite refreshing and go very well with Chinese food.
