Sort of. I think the guy who bought it is one of the guys who was trying to buy OD. I wonder if it will work this time.

Interesting they want it to be a "family friendly atmosphere", yet the contest is sponsored by DC101's "Thong of the Day".

Contradiction, perhaps?

I dunno. Familys have to start somewhere. :D

I suggested they name it "The Human Head Pub":D

DC101 - That could be a bad sign.

I'd call it "2 Far From Burke" or "Old Dominion's Closer"

Okay, maybe a little whiny. But I'm still holding out hope that the rumours of a brew pub in the updated old town Fairfax City is going to happen.

Here is some excellent news from DC-Beer and Greg Wiggins:

Sometimes getting the news takes a lot of research and digging and
annoying those people who have the answers you want by calling them or
waiting outside their door and bugging them with a lot of questions.

Sometimes you only have to return a phone call.

That's what I did when I spoke this afternoon with the guy who's going
to be making the beer at the new and as-yet-unnamed brewpub that's going
into the old Thoroughbreds location in Leesburg.

His name is Bill Madden.

Yes, that Bill Madden.

He's hoping that you'll be drinking his beer in Leesburg before the end
of October.

Bill gave me the great compliment of making me one of the first to know
that he's putting his rubber boots back on (but OF COURSE we sent the
next issue to the printer a couple of days ago and it's too late to get
the news in) so I'm breaking this news bulletin on DC-BEER.

I told Bill he should make an announcement here, and he thought he
"might be doing that" so I'm going to leave most of the details for him
to tell you about.

"...before the end of October..."

Wow.

In other great No. VA bar news, it turns out that the new Dogfish pub is going to be in Seven Corners (the website doesn't have any specifics, but this is what I was told over the phone today)

Say what? Dude, I work directly across the street from it -- you know that -- which space is even up for lease that they might take it?

Was hoping you could tell me. According to their website: "We are doubling in size with our next location." So it's gotta be something sizable - not just taking over an old Arby's.

This is especially great for you, as beer lovers/brewers will have even more reason to come to the area. Speaking of which, I'm way overdue to come by for a visit ;)

The only two places I can think of are occupied: Uno's and Bennigan's. Everything else is rinky-dink and/or run down. Also, the immediate population is largely muslim, Vietnamese or Hispanic. I don't see this as their market. I'm inclined to think it's Tyson's *Corner* where they have a built-in base already going to GB and I suppose SW in Merrifield.

No, I distinctly remember him saying Seven Corners, "about 5 miles from Tyson's."

We'll find out soon enough.

Can you post the link that says seven corners? Here's the press release I found on the site:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Managers Needed For New Dogfish Head Alehouse
Type: Press Release

Start Date: 9/22/2006

Restaurant: DFH Alehouse, Gaithersburg

Location: ???????, VA

We can't tell you exactly where exactly yet... but... we're getting close!!!

What we can say is ... this is your chance to get involved with a fast-growing, off-centered company that is all about great woodgrilled food, creative beers, and handcrafted spirits!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I work close to seven corners as well, and would find it a bad spot to put it. I little bit further west towards Tysons would place it smack dab in Old Town Falls Church - which is going through a big upswing with new Condos and Restaurants.

Exactly, and 5 miles from Tyson's is right about where the new Panera is, maybe a tad further (closer to me at 7 Cornsers, that is). You know, there is that Chicken place that used to be a Denny's or something. Hmmm...

Last I had heard it was going to be in the revamped Landmark Mall area.

Back to the original thread topic. I was at the Appalacian Brewing Company in Camp Hill, PA on Sunday.

Had a good time, our server and host were very knowledgeable and the beer (their Fall Porter) was very good (along with the food).

The host noticed by Old Dominion shirt and said that they were expanding to Virginia - namely Leesburg. He said that they were taking over an existing restaurant.

Wonder if that's tied into the what's going at the old Thoroughbreds?

Now I see on DC beer that it might be the Pizzeria Uno in 7 Corners

Seriously doubt it although as I am across the street from it I would be okay with it.

Any update on the location of the Dogfish Head Alehouse in Northern Virginia/Falls Church/7 Corners? That Pizzeria Uno is still open as of last night. Landmark Mall doesn't make sense because they would describe that as being in Alexandria, not Falls Church.

The landlord's website shows the freestanding building next to the Wendy's as "available". Is that where the Uno's is? If so, and the Uno's has been there for a long time, then I would put money on that being the spot. Generally these landlord websites are about 6-10 months behind on what's really available.

The site plan may also show that there are a couple of new free standing spots being built but that doesn't seem to jive with the timeframes put out there by Dogfish.

the uno's is the free standing building next to wendy's. but i'm not sure if that place is big enough, the website ad says it was gonna be much larger than the Gaithersburg alehouse, personally i would put my money on the chinese buffet thats on the rt.50 side of the 7 Corners complex, if the interior setup is close to what it was when it was fuddruckers long long ago it would be a great location, and who knows what places are going to go out of business but just haven't posted it yet.

I used to eat there when it was the Inn of the Eight Immortals. before it was Fuddruckers. It is a pretty big place.

Back to theoriginal topic...

Does anybody have contact info for Thoroughbreds, or know their hours? We were thinking of going Sunday but have no idea if it's open for lunch.

Remember it is no longer Thoroughbreds. A buddy of mine went there last Monday the official soft opening of Vintage 50. They were still serving what was left of Kevin's brews but the have all the licensing in place and Bill Madden is already brewing an oatmeal stout I think. I heard they hardly changes the inside at all. And the food was good. I hope the new place is better managed and survives.

Here is the phone number to check the hours:

Or visit this site:

FRom a post over on BA - It looks like Bill Maddens brews will be coming on at the end of this week.

Kolsch, followed by oatmeal stout, a belgian beer, pale ale, and last but not least wee heavy.
