When I first started brewing, I wrote a piece of software to help calculate mash schedules. I later added recipe calulators for IBUs, color and OG. I then added batch tracking stuff like brew date, rack date, results, beer style etc. It runs on Windows (I've tested it on 95,98,NT,XP,2000) and there is a second version for Pocket PC. If you are interested, check it out at:

Of course you can download and use it for free.

Thank you for putting up this link. The software is great and its the right price ;) Its got a few more features than I need since I'm an extract brewer, but It is a great tool for tracking my beers. (Better than excel for sure). I'm actually looking forward to the pocket PC version because a desktop computer and brewing don't mix.

i agree about the pocket pc version. i've been looking all over for one and this is the first i've heard one mentioned. and if it's free, then even better.

thanks for this! i will be downloading the pc version tonight. Will the pocket pc version sync with the pc version? (if the website says that, then feel free to punch me)

Yup, the pocket pc version uses the same files. I'll try to put the pocket pc version up on the web site in the next day or two.

Hey Jughead,

Tried your software, really cool, but I had a question about how it calculates the IBU's. I didn't see how one would differentiate between pelets and whole hops, this will change the % of utilization and thus the IBU's per a given amount of hops won't it?

If there is a way to already do this, sorry for the reply

Hi Croc4

Nope, you cannot differentiate between hop forms (plug, pellets, whole).

The IBU calculator is based on Palmers book www.howtobrew.com. Palmer credits Tinseth for the hop utilization chart. The chart he uses does not take hop form into account.

The program does allow you to alter the Alpha rating of any of the hops in your recipe. I suppose you could fudge the alpha value to approximate the utilization differences between hop forms?

Thanks for the interest in the program.

The program has an email address in the "Help, About BrewEaze" menu on the main form for questions, comments etc. I suppose we should use it in the future to avoid cluttering up the Discussion board.
