I'm headed down to Tulum Mexico in October. Last time I was down there two years ago I drank Dos XX Amber, Victoria, and Superior. Does any one know of any regional beer / local beer that I should check out? Thanks in advance. Jeeves

I had the victoria, superior, and leon in cozumel last year. They are all made by the Modelo brewery (who also produce Corona). I found Leon to be the best of their brews. Nice darkish color and definately easy drinking-enough for the weather.

Of the Mexican brews I've tried I like the Negra Modelo best.

Take a look at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexican_beer

It even comments on the use of limes being for the tourists. :)

Thanks Hogie, I've never had The Leon before, I'll give it a go. I'm not worried about the weather as I intend on wearing a banana hammock and a pair of flip-flops as my official on vaction uniform. :D

I like the especial, a pretty easy quaff. I'll give the Negra Modelo a test drive. I think the only Mexican dark I can remember was Bohemia, on Aero-Mexico I'm not quite sure if I enjoyed it or not. I also had a bunch of that fermented cactus juice that everyone else is so keen on down there. I think I ended up with the blind staggers.
