My primary was really bubbling from Saturday night to Monday night.
I wanted to check the foam, so on Monday I opened it, no foam, but residue on the sides, as noted in another post.
Last night I checked it, and there were no bubbles. None.
Did I stop the reaction somehow when I opened the top?

The bubbling and residue would suggest that a healthy fermentation has been occuring. What sort of fermentation vessle are you using?? It would be worth checking that the airlock/ lid is on preperly. It could be that the co2 is still being produced and is just escaping. Opening it up to have a look
wouldnt have affected the fermentation proccess.
How long did wait whilst checking for bubbles?? It could be that fermentation has occured v. quickly and although there may still be bubbles, they may be quite far apart.
Out of interest, what sort of yeast are you using, and what temp is it fermenting at??

Depending on what you were brewing, it could have been done fermenting. Or you might have a stuck fermentation, or a couple other things... who really knows?
Moral of the story: Your hydrometer is your friend. Get one. Use it. Live it.

No - you might have relieved some pressure that hasn't built back up yet, but my best guess is that you didn't close the lid tight enough and air isn't coming through the airlock, but through the side of the lid

Standard kit with a plastic 6 gallon bucket with cover, airlock hole, etc.
I'm a newbie, but yeah, of course I checked the top, and it's been tight on since I started, and after I looked in.
It may have kept on bubbling away after I looked, but I didn't check on the airlock again until last night.
The cover was a little bowed though, so if I pushed down on it, it forced air out of the airlock.
I haven't check yet today.
Not sure on the yeast, but it was a dry packet, and I've got a hydrometer, but I'm going for the 1-2-3 method, and loads of people say not to open the primary a lot, so I've only done it once, and wasn't planning on checking the gravity until near the end of week 1.
It's fermenting somewhere around 68*, but our weather changes by the minute, though the basement sort of stays constant.
When checking for bubbles last night, I only waited around 2 minutes.
