I'm wanting to do a couple mild ales and the only diff in the recipes is the addition of some roast barley and 120L caramel in the dark

i'm trying to effectively come up with a way to do both brews in a single session. I have two kegs, one for mashing, one for boil and hlt, but I could boil in the mash tun if needed.

My current thought is to do the mash for the Light and collect 12 gallons, then have some kind of mini mash/steep in a stock pot with the barley and caramel malts (I assume they are mostly color/flavor additions and not much fermentables anyway, right?) and then just add it to one of the boil kettles and split the wort, boil and hop as usual.

here are the recipes
Light (http://www.harkjohnny.com/beerrecipes/LightMild.html)
Dark (http://www.harkjohnny.com/beerrecipes/DarkMild.html)

thoughts? ideas?

roasted barley and crystal are "steepable" grains. I say go for it and thanks for the recipes!

I think your idea is right on track, make a 12 gallon batch, and after you're finished sparging, stir well, put half of it in another pot, and steep your two additional grains....
