View Full Version : How do you get your fresh hops flavor?

Hi Everyone:
I have a specific question about how do I achieve highly fresh hopped beer flavors found in many microbrews today.
Many of the microbrewed beers seem to cram as much fresh hops flavor into the beer as possible.
Does anyone know the procedure used for this? I have dry hopped but have not had the success that some microbrewed beers have.
thanks for the advice,

More late addition aroma hops and dry hopping. Your "C" hop varieties are a good start. I also like Simcoe and Amarillo. I have also been getting away from high alpha hops for bittering. I have had good success lately with higher amounts of aroma hops throughout the process.
Anyway just a start I guess. Good luck.

What are you dry hopping with? Pellets aren't the best for dry hopping acording to an aritcle I read that week. Loose best, plugs next best, pellets worst.
Cut back on your bittering hops, and put in more Aroma hops at 1-2 minutes left. (cutting back on the bittering addition gives you a better hop balance IMO)
Also, you can buy vials of isomerized hop extract that you just pour in your bottling bucket.

Then you're one step away from making it like Miller Brewing does. :)

Ouch! ... that's not what I meant! Lol!
I've never used them, but they ... when used along with reular hoping ... are supposed to give that extra hop aroma.
P.S. - the big boys, like Coors, Molson, Labatt's etc... I don't think they even use aroma hops ... or flavouring for that matter ...

I grow my own hops & add them at flameout for maximum flavor.

...I'm not even sure they use that much Malt! Corn syrup and rice! That's the ingredients in the so-called 'true North American beers'.
