Is it OK to use mail order yeast. They will inevitably spend a lot of time unrefrigerated at varying temperatures during transport.

Thanks,
Mike

Most online home brew stores offer the option of having the yeast shipped with an ice pack that keeps the yeast cool during transport.

I use mail order all the time, since I live in Chicago and have no homebrew shop worth talking about. Get the ice pack optoin cost about $1 but well worth it ,never had a problem.

I ordered three kits from Austin Home Brew, and wasn't smart enough to get the ice packs. This was also over one of the hottest weekends of the year. All three of them (Wyeast tubes) were duds, I made starters for them that never did anything.

I even pitched one to a batch and two days later had to re-pitch with fresh yeast from the local shop.

I have ordered yeast from them since then that turned out fine, just make sure to get the ice packs.
