You SoCal'ers know how to do it! I just spent a week in San Diego and am happy to report that not only did I injest a ton of water surfing, I also injested a ton of some damn fine brews! I enjoyed injesting the beer more.

Spent one evening at the Coronado Brewing Co. They had a plaque "informing" us that no one would be served more than 3 pints, but to my delight, our waiter didnt care! Maybe it was a joke, where I come from its usually a 3 minimum! They have some very good beers, I especially enjoyed their brown, pale ale, and IPA. Their American wheat, which suspiciously looked and tasted like their Summer Ale, was not to my liking, but I dont really go for the American style wheats. Sadly they were out of their scotch ale.

Rockbottom brew-pub in the Gaslamp district was very good. Had some damn fine ribs, and I consumed much pale ale there. They had about 10 beers on tap: a tasty stout, great IPA, and a very interesting brew somewhat akin to a scotch ale, a decent and quaffable brown. Their light lager on the sampler was a pleasent surprise, from what I remember it had a decent hop nose, but I never ordered more.

Picked up some Firestone Pale ale (excellent), some Stone Pale ale (damn good), Stone Levitation (a nice drinker), some Great White (a belgian wit - loved it), and some Kona Longboard Lager (a nice surpise - a pretty tasty lager) at BevMo.

Out and about I was lucky to always run into some sort of craft brew, be it Karl Strauss or Stone or Sierra Nevada. This impressed me more than anything. No matter where we went, there was always something good offered. Except the O-club on base: Bud light, Corona, Heineken.

Great place for beer, and the ladies are bad looking either! Too bad I cant afford to live there.

What? You missed Pizza Port? For Shame!

I had the Kona Longboard and a few of their others on my recent trip to Hawaii. They were good, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get them again.

I had a good meal and some decent brews at Coronado on my last trip a couple of years ago. But I've never been to Pizza Port yet either. I have had Pizza Port beers at the Lupulin Slam at RFD though. YUMMY STUFF!

well port brewing also has a site away from pizza port where there is no food, it is all about hte beer. They have a lot of specialties that are not introduced to retail. They are very tasty.

When it comes to san diego, I think Stone Brewing Company takes the cake. Arrogant Bastard and their Vertical Epic are ... well ... epic. We have covered a few of their beers on our show (www.sudsorduds.com)

Does Alesmith have a brew pub? Seems that would be a must hit if you are anywhere in the region.

What are the best restaurants downtown by the way? And best places to purchase beer? Im going next spring for business.

I figure I'll repost this in the "San Diego" thread....

If any of you decide to visit San Diego, check out this site, compliments of the San Diego Brewers Guild:

http://www.sandiegobrewersguild.org/brewery.php

It lists every brewery in San Diego County - memebers and affliates of the San Diego Brewers Guild.

I personally have been going down the list and marking off each place as I go. Ballast Point in Linda Vista is very tasty - also a homebrew mart, and I'm there more than any place else. You can drink beer and shop for all your brew supplies, grains, malts, etc in one place (where I get all my homebrew supplies in San Diego). The president of the san diego brewers guild also works out of that brewery.

I'm suprised how big craftsbrew is in San Diego. Just went to the 14th annual San Diego Beer Fest last Friday 9/19. Great craftsbrew, great crowd.

Since its the begining of Oktober Fest, here's also a link of the Beer festivities going on in San Diego:

Mmmm, lots of yummy beer to drink

We normally frown on duplicate posts, our members are pretty comprehensive in their browsing and everything gets read at some point, but since the two threads are following a similar path we can let this one slide.
