You SoCal'ers know how to do it! I just spent a week in San Diego and am happy to report that not only did I injest a ton of water surfing, I also injested a ton of some damn fine brews! I enjoyed injesting the beer more.
Spent one evening at the Coronado Brewing Co. They had a plaque "informing" us that no one would be served more than 3 pints, but to my delight, our waiter didnt care! Maybe it was a joke, where I come from its usually a 3 minimum! They have some very good beers, I especially enjoyed their brown, pale ale, and IPA. Their American wheat, which suspiciously looked and tasted like their Summer Ale, was not to my liking, but I dont really go for the American style wheats. Sadly they were out of their scotch ale.
Rockbottom brew-pub in the Gaslamp district was very good. Had some damn fine ribs, and I consumed much pale ale there. They had about 10 beers on tap: a tasty stout, great IPA, and a very interesting brew somewhat akin to a scotch ale, a decent and quaffable brown. Their light lager on the sampler was a pleasent surprise, from what I remember it had a decent hop nose, but I never ordered more.
Picked up some Firestone Pale ale (excellent), some Stone Pale ale (damn good), Stone Levitation (a nice drinker), some Great White (a belgian wit - loved it), and some Kona Longboard Lager (a nice surpise - a pretty tasty lager) at BevMo.
Out and about I was lucky to always run into some sort of craft brew, be it Karl Strauss or Stone or Sierra Nevada. This impressed me more than anything. No matter where we went, there was always something good offered. Except the O-club on base: Bud light, Corona, Heineken.
Great place for beer, and the ladies are bad looking either! Too bad I cant afford to live there.
