Last weekend I found some good beers in the downtown Boise area. Harry's Bar had 16 taps, with Bitch Creek ESB being a very dry, almost roasted interpretation of the style, and most beers $3.75/pt. Even my hotel lobby sold Gretchen's Gold Lager, from Sun Valley, for less than $4 a 12-oz bottle.
The Bitter Creek Ale House in the very walkable 8th Street area had plenty of fresh Pacific Northwest brews on draught, 27 taps in all, along with a nice outdoor patio.
The Table Rock brewpub had two small patios and serving sizes went from 4-oz samplers to 1/2 gal. growlers. They had a nice variety: Woodpecker Light, Whitebird Wheat, Cooperhead Red, St. Andrew's Amber, Laughing Dog Pale Ale, Nutbrown Ale, Hophead I.P.A., Hopzilla, Weizen Cream Stout and an Orange Blossom Special. Of them all, I liked the mellow IPA.
Highlands Hollow brewpub does a happy hour from 3 to 6 daily, but no sampler tray. So, sampling pints leads to the Lone Pine - more malt than hops, Fiegwild - the "favorite among hollow-heads", Spoon Tongue - golden and clean, and Doolies - a nutty brown. Plenty to taste if you've got the space.
All the beers at Ram's Buckhorn Restaurant brewpub were clean and the large patios very inviting.
Before the religious terrorists struck, it was ideal to stop by Bucket-O-Brew downtown and get your beer gift pack for the flight home. Looks like a summer house may be in order, althought they do ship to non-Taliban states.

Wow... $3.75 a pint (I take it you mean the standard 12oz glass).

Haven't been to Boise since '96. Maybe one day again when I do a cross the USA brew-tour.:)
