Porter ingredients going into the brewpot today. Pray for me, my virtual brewing brethren. First time brewing all on my own and only third batch. Carboy has been sanitized overnight and I must get it rinsed out and get the rest of the brewing equipment soaking.

Best of luck! I jus6 brewed my first porter (fifth beer overall) yesterday. It looks so pretty in the carboy. And with my IPA conditioning in the keg, I am gearing up for a whole mess of drinking. Can't wait!

Ohh what fun to be at the first solo batch. Just remember to breath and not worry. All will be beer in the end.

Have fun!

I too did my fifth batch today, a Weizenbier that will likely be largely given away as Christmas presents if it lasts that long.

I've now got about 25 gallons of beer in the house (15 in secondary, 5 in primary, and <5 in bottles from my first batch) and wondering at what point I will have to admit I have a problem...

That very thought has crossed my mind many times. I have 4 kegs of beer in the freezer at various stages of fullness, a keg of mead in there, two 5-gallon batches of mead brewing, two 5-gallon batches of beer brewing, a 1-gallon batch of chocolate mead brewing, and a 1-gallon batch of cyser brewing... Did I miss anything? And I still buy a bottle of beer here and there. I bought two bottles of Paulaner Salvator today that are chilling as I type. I love beer, what can I say?

:)

Don't have a wort chiller so used the ice bath method. The temp still isn't registering on the fermenter thermometer. Glass is warm to the touch. I've already got the dry yeast in the suspension ... hope it'll still work whenever the temp finally gets low enough. Its worse than watching a pot to see when it'll boil!

PS - never did figure out that darn fermenter thermometer. After quite awhile, the glass was pretty cool to the touch so I just pitched the suspended yeast in. Hope it all works out. Its already bubbling a bit so I'll keep my finger crossed.

PSS - had a Bell's Expedition Stout in celebration tonight. I've had this one last bottle for about 6 monts now after a trade. SUPER AWESOME STOUT! Get some if ya can!

When you run out of beer, it's a problem!

Good point - that is the problem I'm trying to avoid right now!

The problem i have is not enough room to keep all the beer. I want to have TonyC's problem, I really do. I only have the keg of IPA and the carboy of porter anda refridgerator fuill of bottled beer and a few boxes of other beer waiting for room in the (full sized beer only) refridgerator.

Maybe I do have a problem.

The first step to solving the problem... is denying it exists. Have another beer instead. If you are worried about running out of beer, create a brewing schedule, so you know when it's time to get another batch going.

Hope this helps. :D

Cases of beer make fine pieces of furniture and I have found that if you can get away with leaving them lying around for more than a month, the wife eventually doesn't seen them anymore and just vacuums around them.

LMAO! :D

Brewing my second batch tomorrow night, a DunkleWeisse. I'll be using a yeast starter this time, and probably priming with DME as well. My first batch, Pale Ale, is really good...

Cheers, and good luck.
