Man i wish they had a better selection even semi locally around here i have to drive for better than an hour to find anything decent all the locals have is cheap macros i have to follow the truck in to even find any Amber beer which is the best i can do around here. Soon i will be producing my own so i guess i should quit griping. But dont anyone know any better than to drink that bad water the macros put out oh well i guess i will just have to make the best of it for now.

Good Luck on your brewing. You'll get hooked, I assure you.

there is an awful lot of beer trading and dealing going on in the swap meet section. Perhaps you could get in on that.

williams kits are pretty good, but I'd advise you to look at AustinHomebrew - they've got good kits (and a huge selection of kits), and they are closer, so shipping would be quicker and cheaper (also they have free shipping on orders over $60, so order two kits at a time).

Poor selection....one of the reasons I started homebrewing. Do you get to travel much? Houston and DFW have some really great beer shops. I get over there frequently and stock up. Several places in Shreveport have decent selections. Picked up Abitas 20th Anniversary Pils the other day, pretty good stuff (I couldnt help but notice the similarities to Restoration Ale though....maybe its just the lager version).

no i dont get to travel much. with my job i am on call 24/7 unless i have someone to cover for me and i am supposed to be within a 1 hour callback distance in case of a problem ( i run the converse water/sewer/street departments , in other words i am the only physical labor on staff here in town) so i can go to shreveport but that is a far as i get normally. Allthough i am passing through dallas/fort worth next weekend if you know some places close to I-20 i can stop at

Speaking of selection, I just returned from visiting the in-laws in Oklahoma. For those who don't know OK is a beer wasteland for the most part, lived there a year and started homebrewing in self defense. Anyway I was pleasantly surprised of find a pretty reasonable selection in the local liquor store where my in-laws live. It use to be only SA lager, Shiner, and the leaded versions of BMC, OK is a 3.2 state.

I bought some bottles at Austin Homebrew but i am going to try to use the small shop up the road for as much as i can. the last batch was part grain and part dme and i got the recipe from him at the store. I had tried it before and enjoyed it so i gave it a try. It is in the fermentor now so just waiting now to start drinking my homebrew

Try checking some of these out:

World Market (http://www.worldmarket.com/custserv/store_listing.jsp?state=43)

Central Market (http://www.centralmarket.com/cm/cmLocation.jsp)

You can get directions to the DFW locations on those websites. Of the two, if I recall correctly, Central Market is the best. Good luck! You can also check the beerfly directory on BeerAdvocate (http://beeradvocate.com/beerfly/city/31)

Good Luck and have fun!

I found some good brews at a Central Market in Houston about a year ago. I went with some friends and Beerfly showed it to be the closest.
