Maybe it's the might of Dudweiser who've launched a "denial of service" attack :-) I can't get into the OBBD either :-(

There was a post by Todd the other day about the site going in and out due to server load. Maybe the server finally hung on all the traffic. They are looking to upgrade, but maybe they'll HAVE to, now.

It's been hung up all morning and afternoon. I don't know where there servers are, but there were lots of power outages throughout New England last night. That may have something to do with it. The fact that their servers are virtually at critical mass are probably another factor.

It was down last night as well Steve. Good to see you over there. I don't really like one over the other, but I use them as resources for different things. I also go to homebrew.com. ANyone else post on these sites or other sites that I don't know about?

Server/host problems - they're on the west coast and the Alstrom Bros. that run the site are in Boston. Will be back up sometime today after they hash things out. New servers/host on the horizon? After two crashes in two weeks, I hope so.
Cheers!

I've not yet subscribed. I'll wait and see how it turns out before I do. I do have subscriptions to many beer publications though.

Posted by Todd on BA:
Some of you might have saw something about this on myspace ...
Yes, we went down again ... well the server was reachable by its new IP. Oh ... did I mention we have a new IP? Yeah, we just found out yesterday at 5pm ... after our host switched it on us and access to the site went down. Some form of notice would have been cool ...
On top of this, someone at our host (the same someone that was responsible for our being down for some 19 hours on July 19) screwed-up the DNS A record entry (broke access to us, basically). Fun times, but I was able to contact a beer lover at our host who escalated the issue and got it resolved much faster than anticipated - thanks, John ... maybe we'll see you at O'Brien's!
So ... the word about our new IP is spreading around the internet now. Users will slowly be able to get to the site throughout the day -- some sooner than others depending on how often their ISP flushes their DNS.
We'll also be extending the BeerAdvocate magazine Founding Member deadline to midnight on Aug 3.
Time of a beer ...
Todd
If it's not up for you, your ISP hasn't flushed the DNS yet.

I subscribed about 2 weeks ago. Couldn't pass up the price on the chance that after it was out I found it to be worthwhile.
Hope I'm not disappointed.

Sometime in September, If I remember correctly. That was another thing. You had to pay upfront. Had me alittle wary but figured I'd give them a shot anyway.

There will be a special issue in the fall, but the subscription itself doesn't start until January 2007.

Don't you usually pay up front for a magazine subscription? Granted, most that I've subscribed to are established rags that I've bought and read at the news stand first. Most publications also offer a pro-rated refund if you're not happy with it. Not sure if BA offers this, but it's still only $20.
Cheers!

Yeah, you usually pay up front but they are usually already established and you probably have already looked at a copy before you subscribe. This is kind of a blind trust sort of thing. I like the website o.k. so I figured I'd take the chance.
