I am going to be in Cincinnati for the next three weeks living in a hotel starting on Sunday. My question is, what is there to do so I don't just stay in my room and go crazy. Anyone have any insight?

The 'Nati a pretty nice lil city. Hofbrau house is across the river in Ky(maybe 10-15 minutes away). I think there's a Rock Bottom right in down town. It had just ok beers but really good food.
If you're into baseball, you could catch a Reds game...

Yeah, I guess I am staying at the Millennium Hotel which is right downtown. I plan on seeing at least one Reds game. The real pain is that I won't have a car so I need to depend on cabs and buses.

Hofbrauhaus is pretty good, but it's much better to go during the day IMO. At night (especially on the weekend, as I found out), it turns into a standing-room only 20-something Smirnoff Ice jackass meat market. Ugh.

BarrelHouse, in the borderline-scary Over-the-Rhine neighborhood used to pretty decent, but I don't know if they're still open anymore.

My personal favorite place to go in Cinci is the Dilly Deli in Mariemont (maybe 15-20 minutes Northeast of downtown). It's a retail beer and wine shop, with a bar/restaurant in the back. Last time I was there (maybe a year ago) they had at least 8 good craft beers on tap. Very comfortable place to waste an afternoon or evening.

I've been here and can recommend it. My avatar picture was actually taken there. I liked the food too. Down the hill from the HB Haus is a Party Store which had a very good selection of beers. If you ask at the HB for the Party Store, they will give you directions. It is easy to find.

They actually brew at this HB Haus. But I still liked the beer at the Las Vegas branch better. It is flown in from Munich. And I, of course, like th original in Munchen the best. I hear Pittsburgh is getting one of these. Anyone know the story?

Barrelhouse is now a brewery only and moved to the west end of town and out of Over-The-Rhine. OTR isn't a very safe place to be so if you find yourself getting up near 13th street, turn around! :D

Hofbrau is walking distance across the bridge and Dilly Deli is a must. Dilly Deli isn't too far a cab ride out of town and always has a GREAT selection on-tap. Last time I was there they had LaChouffe, Stone IPA and various other belgians and micros.

Rock Bottom got a new head brewer about a year ago and seems to be doing well despite the major restructuring of Fountain Square.

A Reds game is always a good idea. Walking distance from your hotel. grab cheap seats and sit nearly anywhere. On the lower level, home team side between home plate and the dugout is a small stand that serves Great Lakes Burning River. the best beer in the place and only micro i've found. (ugh!)

The aquarium in Newport is a fun afternoon as well.

p.s. what are you in town for?

p.p.s If you are still around on August 19th our homebrew club hosts the largest (that we know of) keg-only competition. Last year there were over 200 kegs entered and this year will only be bigger. I can get you more details as they become available. Oh, and it's at a hotel downtown.

Thanks for all the info, it looks like there should be enough to keep me busy. I am actually going to be in town for training, so the weekdays are going to be classroom work all day. I am going to be gone by the 19th though. Now if I could just find a way to push training back a week so I was there!

sh*t i've never even seen a KRP shirt and i live here!

and, beer seller is a decent bar as well (lots on tap), but sometimes there's a cover due to a (likely) crappy band playing at the bar next door.

everyone is welcome at the keg competition. call the downtown hotels and ask for the "beer and sweat" rate for the weekend of Aug 19th. it's like $15 to get in and drink all the homebrew you want!

oh! and don't forget to try Nicholson's downtown. It's a scottish themed joint with cask ales always available and one of the best taprooms in the city.

It was in one of those little shops in the downtown area where all the buildings are attached by human habitrails.

I'll have to try Nicholson's the next time I'm up which s/b in the next coupla months...

I feel bad for all these guys who married the wrong woman. My hsuband and I have so much fun going to beer festivals, doing brewery tours and shopping for beers.

I love Hofbrauhaus! Fantastic food and great prices at Happy Hour. I think Happy Hour is until 7:00pm on weekdays. Be sure to ask your server. It's cheaper to buy 2 half liters than the 1L. Not to mention you get to drink COLD beer.

Beer Sellar is a lot of fun. There are 60 beers on tap!!! They're a little expensive but definitely worth stopping by.

Go to http://www.tankbus.org/ for schedules for the Tank. It's the bus for Northern Kentucky. It's only $1 and it goes through Cincinnati, Newport and Covington. We usually park in Newport, KY to ride the Tank to the Reds game. We ride back and stop by Hofbrauhaus. An excellent day! It's totally safe. Even as a woman, I would ride the Tank by myself.
