My moron of a roommate put a hole through the back plate on my kegerator with a screwdriver. He said that he heard gas escaping right after and the kegerator has not worked since. Is the back plate replaceable or do I have to murder my roommate?
Thanks,

I would make that chump pay for it. Your fridge is shot and probably cheaper to buy a new one then to try and fix that one.
Why the hell was he using a screw driver on your fridge?

I agree and not only would I make him pay for it I would terminate his rights of consumption. Cheaper and easier to replace than rebuild.

Refridgerators work by evaporation. When a liquid refridgerant turns to a gas, the fridge becomes colder. The compressor converts it back to liquid form, and the heat is given off by the condenser (at the rear of your refridgerator, usually).
So, if your roommate heard gas escaping, it sounds like he punctured your evaporator, and let the gaseous coolant out. You can try taking it by a repair shop; see what they estimate repairs will run you. But, unfortunately, you probably need a brand new fridge.
