Hi guys,
well after 14 years of not drinking i decided that on my 40th birthday i would have a beer.
My brother-in-law went out and bought a six pack of Stella Artois for me to drink, not all at once, and i have to say it was a nice re-introduction into drinking beer again.
It took me a week to drink that six pack and now i have gone out and bought a six pack of St. Ambroise Pale Ale to try.
The one thing i always missed about quitting drinking was going into my local bar and having a pint or two with lunch and reading a book, i'm going to have to find a good pub around here to do that again.

It was january 1 of 1992 and i was suffering from the worlds biggest hangover and i decided that i couldn't keep doing that to myself anymore.
Now that i am older and wiser-hopefully- i know that it is possible to imbibe without dire consequences.

It seems you've realized that drinking well is much more enjoyable than drinking a lot.

I raise my glass to you welcoming you back to the enjoyment of beer. The beer world has changed in ways that you never would have believed when you quit drinking years ago. But I sincerely hope that the quest for good beer in no way takes control of your life, that you can enjoy god beer with no bad consequences. Sadly, I have friends and family who should have quit 14 years ago and never restarted.

I too quit drinking totally for about a year because it wasnt fun anymore waking up for work and still being drunk from the night before. Now i just drink one or two in a day and look for good tasting beer instead of a bunch of cheap beer. So enjoy a few good beers it is lots more fun and try new things you never know when you will find a great beer

The bottom line is - Its all about taste and not quantity. Enjoy what you drink. Have as much as you'd like. But maturity will likely keep you from falling into the pitfalls of your youth.

i've had my share of hangovers no matter what beer i'm drinking. some that i knew were coming, others that snuck up on me. I'm just glad I found great beer before giving up on it all together.
but hey, welcome back to the fun... you'll be trying all kinds of new styles soon enough i'm sure! enjoy!

10 years on the wagon, then back again just a little over a year ago. No hangovers this time around, for some mysterious reason.

I'm not so sure I'd want to give up drinking totally ever. And I usually only have a couple beers a week if there are not tastings, events or festivals.

So, Chaz, inversely you have a couple of weeks of beers if there are tastings, events, or festivals?

Ah. hangovers!!! I had my first hangover in the past 7 or 8 years just 2 weeks ago! Next time I'll eat a little more than I did. It sux!!
Welcome back! Enjoy the beer for the flavor & aroma. Stella is not too bad.
There are preventative measures for hangovers.

That's what i used to do as well, worked in a bar for ten years and quit drinking about the eighth year. I was walking to work on a new years day, after a night of heavy drinking, and had such a massive hangover i decided that i wouldn't do that to myself anymore so i stopped drinking.

Moderation is a good thing as is knowing your limits. Last night at a camping trip I was on, almost 200 bottles of beer was consumed among 20 people over a 12 hour period. No one got drunk and no one had a hangover the next day.

Craft Beer is for folks who like beer
Regular macro-swill is for people who like to get buzzed and urinate.
Light macro-swill for people who kinda like to get buzzed and urinate a lot.
Near-beer is for people who just darn well like to urinate.
