Was in Bend, OR, for the last few days. Stayed right in downtown Bend, a block and a half from the Deschutes BrewPub.
My wife was seriously digging the Twighlight Ale and I felt like a friggin' kid in a candy store. I like their brews that I can get in the stores around here. The real joy was all the great "unpublicized" stuff on tap at the source.
Great stuff, highly recommended if you ever get out there.
(PS- I liked the Baby Back Ribs and the Thai chicken wings were great too.)

I hate you. No, really, I do.:D
Looking forward to that day in the misty distant future when I can go to that brewpub...

I know what you mean. I was at Sun River last summer and we went ther for lunch on our way home. Good food and excellent brews. Definitely the seasonal and special choices are the go for choices. I think it was the Matrimony-Ale (I think) that I had. It was brewed for the head brewer's wedding. I plan to stop there next (and every) time I am through the area.

I was passing through Oregon last week and made a stop at Deschutes. Great beer! The food was excellent as well.
Highly recommended. They had cask and nitro.

You guys make me jealous, I wish I could go there.
Just kidding, the brewery is only 6 miles from my house and the restaurant/pub is about 1 ½ further. Their beer is always great and the food is always tasty – a fine choice after a long Mountain bike ride or a day on the slopes. I really enjoy the cascade ale, twilight ale and the mirror pond pale, I don’t really like the taste of the inversion or the cinder cone, but that’s just me.
I highly recommend this restaurant/pub and not just because its close to my house, great food and great brew.

Now I'm jealous. PsychoBrew, how do you like living in Bend? Are you from there?

Yep I have been in this area since 1975 - and although the influx of grouchy folks from other states (that shal remain namless) has made it a bit less desirable, I still like it. There is a club of local homebrewers here that I'm going to join so maybe thats enough to keep me here.

For some odd reason I don't think thats the case, but I would not fully rule that out of the equation. Many people that have lived here for 10 or more years have been moving away because this has became Bendifornia and the nice friendly attitude is starting to become a thing of the past. I'm looking at Montana myself except that before long it will probably be montanifornia and I would not have gained anything at all.

California culture is a cancer that spreads to the rest of the country. Californians sell their overpriced home, flee the state, and attempt to ruin other places that are actually still nice places to live. The key is you've got to go to places that most Californians won't move to -- namely, states that have cold winters.

I was conidering Alaska, but I would have to build a heated brewroom just for fermentaing homebrew, it might be great for lagers though. Montana can't really hold them back either, the prices there have been driven up by the influx of people.
There is no where safe - maybe Siberia?

You are way to late for Montana. Trust me I grew up there. It has been discovered. My folks bought a house with 1.5 acres in '85 in the Kalispell area for $27,000. The population has trippled since then and the home is now listed for well over $200,000. The upside of this is there are a lot of good breweries -- Montana doesn't permit brewpubs under state law -- popping up all the time. Lang Creek, Flathead Lake Brewing, Blackfoot River Brewing, Big Sky Brewing, Harvest Moon, and Bayern Brewing are all very high quality and would hold there own in Oregon. Doesn't quite make up for rush hour traffic "in the last best place," though.

Yes they do produce some great beer - my favorite Montana brewery is Big Sky Brewing - I really enjoy the Powder Hound winter offering

Powder hound is nice, but I am partial to the IPA. Its a nice change of pace IPA for me as it is much more earthy then most west coast IPA's, which tend to be heavily ctirus flavored.. I love that grapefruit flavor, but its nice to have a high quality IPA that breaks that mold a little. I just wish it was as easy to find as the Moose Drool and Scape Goat.

I have seen the IPA around here once in a while - it does not seem to be available all of the time - mostly at Ray's Foodplace. I think they get a shipment of one kind of beer and then sell it out, then stock the same section with a different kind that is from the same beer company. One time you go thereyou might find Moose Drool and Scape Goat - the next time maybe Moose drool and the IPA. They do carry the Summer Honey and Powder hound as seasonals. I think there are Ray's stores in Portland - you might want to check them out, I think I also have seen the IPA at FredMeyer.
